Two Thirds of the germans don't want to be thankful to the Americans.

So short a memory can't be permitted.

Without the Amis Berlin would be Khrushchevgrad

Without the Amis there would still be the Wall and barbed wire.

Without the Amis we'd still have the Nazis at our throats.

Without McDonald's and without Coca-Cola, we Germans could live, but life wouldn't be worth as much without the American freedom to say what you want, what you think is good or bad, what you would like to have, and having the ability to ctiticize anyone - even if it's the American, the German or the Russian president.

Without the Amis the motto for us, even for thinking would be: "ten-HUT!"

I used to teach German to seniors; and my favorite exercise was a list of Low German words which I asked them to "guess" the English equivalent thereof! Not much guessing required!

as Low German, lower Germany being closer to Britain, is quite close to Old English . . .

I am currently stationed in Germany and am fluent in the language.

I have spoken with Germans at great length about German-American relations.

I have yet to hear one German confess that they dislike the current administration.

In my conversations with the Germans, two specific quotes come to mind:

1)In Southern Bavaria last November a gentlemen told me that "Saddam is as bad as Hitler. He needed to go."

2) This past Wednesday, the day the POTUS was in Wiesbaden, a very successful business man in Rhineland-Pfalz looked me in the eye and said he didn't know "what Schröder's problem is, but he hoped that Bush and Schröder had a nice beer together, because more can be solved over a beer than by anything else."
