For the freedom you enjoyed yesterday...
Thank the Veterans
who served in the United States Armed Forces.

Good morning Troops!
Themeless Thursday Feb. 24, 2005!

We're in the clouds today!

Clouds are interesting!!
There are many kinds of clouds.

Behind this cartoon cloud are Lenticular Clouds.

Some of us are in the clouds most of the time.
I'm sure writer 33 would attest to that as fact.
Of course, he would be thinking about the Queen of no Theme, bentfeather.

Many of our FReepers are pilots, they love being in the clouds.

On this day...
Operation Desert Storm Ground Campaign Began (1991).

Learning more about clouds.

Here's an interesting piece of military history I just learned today.

In the months prior to the planned November 1945 launch of "Operation Downfall" (the U.S. invasion of Japan) strategists put American casualty estimates between 250,000 (conservative) and 1,000,000 (liberal).

The War Department therefore ordered 500,000 Purple Heart medals in anticipation of the slaughter.

Fortunately, the Manhattan Project gave us the A-Bomb, and "Operation Downfall" was not needed, thus saving hundreds of thousands of American and Japanese lives.

And what became of all those Purple Hearts? They're still in a warehouse in Washington, DC. They've been used for every Purple Heart recipient since.

Korea, Vietnam, Grenada, Panama, Gulf War, Iraqi Liberation, other military engagements - all recipients of the Purple Heart got their medal from the WWII stash.

They're still handing them out today.

(((HUGS))) Sis. We got about 6 inches at the home place. Now it is turning to sleet. I had to take a break and help Mr. Beachy clean the back deck. Didn't want all that heavy sleet on top of all that snow. Yuck!

We are doing well. I started running a little bit and I am so sore, it is killing me. Last weekend when I was visiting my parents and kids, we missed a big cold bug. My sisters kids got antibiotics on Monday. Thankfully, and for once, we didn't get sick after a visit. I hope Jake stays well.
