WASHINGTON, D.C. - In a note to MSNBC Hardball anchor Chris Matthews, Doug Wead says he has come to realize that personal relationships are more important than history and that he is asking his attorney to find the best way to vet these tapes and get them back to the president to whom they belong.
Wead sent the note to Matthews and Hardball producers on Tuesday following the cancellation of his scheduled appearance on the program. Following is the text of the note from Wead to Matthews:
Dear Mr. Matthews,
I am so sorry to cancel your show. It was very gracious of you to allow me a chance to share my heart and regrets about recent events. It seems the better part of wisdom for me to forgo television for a time. It would only add to the distraction I have caused to the presidents important and historic work.
Contrary to a statement that I made to the New York Times, I have come to realize that personal relationships are more important than history. I am asking my attorney to direct any future proceeds from the book to charity and to find the best way to vet these tapes and get them back to the president to whom they belong. History can wait.
Thanks for your consideration,
Doug Wead

Now even their Judas has admitted he was wrong.
Oh, the humanity!
I don't trust him. The first rule when you are in a hole is to stop digging. He says he is stopping.
Ohhhh, I'll bet Sissy Chrissy will have a hissy fit.
What a shame to waste a good balloon.
Just for the record: Do not count me in that group.
This guy was never a "true friend" of the Bush family. Who in the hell would tape a conversation with a true friend w/o his permission?
haha! First laugh I have had all day, much needed too...
thanks!
You are very welcome, and I hope the rest of the evening goes better for you also---
Vet, shmet. Just give them to the President and slink away like the jerk he is.
I agree. He knew what he was doing, he knew how big this would be. All of the sudden, NOW he has a change of heart????
Media pressure can be a huge factor. Remember they're weasels. Not condoning, but he probably got caught up in the moment. Pity, this is what our country has come to this.
I don't care how sorry he says he is. This guy is a snake and I don't buy one word he says. And how dare he cause personal turmoil for our president during this very troubled time and during his trip overseas. This is unforgiveable, low down and sneaky. I hope he pays for this dearly!
MSM media is having a discombobulated evening... lmao. I bet they were pinning all their salivating hopes on this one... "yes! we finally.." oh no"!
Once you let the cat out of the bag there is no putting it back. The damage is done. Dick Weed can aplogoise till hell freezes over but the fact is he broke a trust by secretly taping the President. Fool me once shame on you, Fool me twice shame on me. President Bush wont be fooled twice.
One of the most public displays of trying to get the toothpaste back into the tube in some time. What does he hope to expect from this turn of events?
The DUmmies will claim this all further proof that this was all Karl Rove's doing to distract the public from the Jeff Gannon pseudo-scandal... just like Rove released those forged documents to CBS!
And 6 months from now, the moonbats will be claiming that Gannon was a Rove plant to distract us from... (fill in the blank).
The left these days are acting like a scene straight out of 1984 ... no matter what happens .. ROVE (Goldstein) did it!
This would be incredibly comical if it wasn't so sad .. the Dems are like a trainwreck in slow motion.
I must say that I'm surprised, but pleased, with this development.
Another freeper just posted to me that Christine Matth-spews was the first lamestreamer to suggest that the Bush-Wead tapes were released by Bush deliberately to take attention off the Jeff Gannon story.
I hadn't heard that one, but I'm not a bit surprised.
Matth-spew (LOL) actually said that? The left have turned into conspiracy nutjobs.
Off topic:
I'm watching an HBO special on dirty bombs that PBS is showing. (Which is a good thing since we don't have HBO). It's absolutely horrifying. I shouldn't be watching at night but should have taped it instead. I probably won't sleep tonight :-)
"I wonder how many friends, acquaintances and relatives called him up and told him what a sniveling little weasle
he was."
Perhaps his wife became frigid due to his sniveling.
