Corzine, Lautenberg to introduce bill banning assault pistol use
Associated Press
WASHINGTON - New Jersey's U.S. senators plan to introduce a bill that would make it illegal for anyone, except a police officer or military official, to purchase or use an assault pistol that fires bullets capable of penetrating a bulletproof vest.
The Five-SeveN gun made by FN Herstal of Belgium has already been denounced by three national police organizations and the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence. The handgun is small and lightweight and easily concealed in a person's pocket, the groups said.
Last month, the Brady Campaign released a videotape of its staff test-firing one of the handguns it had purchased from a Virginia gun dealer. The bullets penetrated a police Kevlar vest.
Democratic Sens. Jon Corzine and Frank Lautenberg said the guns are a menace to society.
"There is absolutely no reason anyone other than law enforcement and the military should possess firepower capable of piercing protective body armor," Lautenberg said.
The two senators plan to introduce the Protect Law Enforcement Armor (PLEA) Act next week. The bill would ban the sale, purchase and use of the handgun and its ammunition by anyone other than a police officer or military official. The bill would also prohibit the gun and bullets from being made in the United States.
Police officials from the National Organization of Black Law Enforcement Executives, the International Association of Chiefs of Police and the International Brotherhood of Police Officers say every police officer in the country needs to familiarize themselves with the weapon because it poses a great risk to the public.
The U.S. office of FN Herstal in McLean, Va., did not respond Tuesday to an e-mail message seeking comment.
bump
Can we just skip right to the point and ban idiot senators? That pretty well cleans out about half the Senate.
Id like to announce plans to manufacture bullet resistant vests for police officers in New Jersey. These vests will be constructed of 12 of Chobham-style armor impervious to all known man carried firearms.
These vests will render New Jerseys planned assault pistol ban moot.
A statement made by someone who wishes to completely destroy the Second Amendment. All rifles and the .44 Magnum are banned using this logic.
And I always assumed AP was balanced.
Oh no, they will want to consider body armor to be the lowest grade available.
Look for Level 0-A protection to be offered soon.
It will consist of a paper bag with arm- and head-holes.
I have talked with someone who is a ceramics engineer and they said such a firearm is only useful for maybe fifty shots. Ceramics will crack under the extreme pressures.
I think we should ban "assault sticks," "assault rocks," and "assalut rubber bands." If that is not enough, we should ban "assault hands" and "assault words." If we do this then Americans will be safe from everything and will never die between the time they survive leaving a mother's womb and the time the government decides they should die.
"Amen! Maybe we could sponsor a bill banning idiots from our legislature!"
Finally! A bill I would write my senator to support.
No firearm that I know of can be slipped past security because they all have metal barrels.
I don't believe that ceramic can withstand the pressures of current ammunition. If it is real then it would have to have some special ammunition that works in conjunction with the firearm. Not only would it be very rare it would also be cost prohibitive. Where can I get one?
1. What level vest?
2. If level 1 just about any pistol can do it.
3. This ha nothing to so with reality. Statistics prove that if you want to protect cops you should take guns away from cops. Friendly fire incidents in police forces is out of control.
I can assualt you to the hospital with my pen and not even pause to reload. Courtesy of Uncle Sugar training years ago.
Re: slipping it past security was meant as a joke and referred to something Sen. Schumer once famously but incorrectly said (amoung his many fatuosities).
They can have my CZ-52 when they pry it from my
cold dead hands, empty.
Such a DEAL!
You can even get them UNDER $100 now days.
I really need to check that out. Sounds like a bargain.
The 7.62x25 round has a muzzle velocity of 1525 ft/s. and a muzzle energy of 439 Ft/lbs.
It uses a roller lock mechanism similar to an H&K.
I love mine it's awesome, and the flying brass will kill at 25 yds.
Note , the standard round is on the right,
the saboted round on the left is much faster.
Sold.
