On Election Day, people often tell their friends in jest to vote early and often.
But a Brooklyn Park man is accused of taking that advice to heart.
A felony charge filed Tuesday in Hennepin County District Court accuses Darin Randall Johnson, 34, of registering to vote and casting ballots in three different places in the November election.
Johnson refused to comment when contacted by a reporter.
The criminal complaint alleges he filled out same-day registration forms and voted once in Brooklyn Park and twice in Minneapolis.
The alleged voter fraud was uncovered by a member of the Hennepin County elections staff.
In the complaint, Mike Atkinson, an investigator for the county attorney, said that he questioned Johnson and that he admitted voting three times. According to Atkinson, Johnson said he had lived at three different addresses in Brooklyn Park and Minneapolis and thought he was entitled to vote in each precinct where he had lived.
"It's sad to hear," Secretary of State Mary Kiffmeyer said of the charges against Johnson. But she said a few criminal charges alleging multiple voting are common after an election.
Kiffmeyer also said that she has asked several county attorneys across Minnesota to investigate evidence her staff uncovered that suggests some noncitizens illegally registered to vote in the November election.
"So far, at least, we have 32 people who have registered to vote and seem to be allegedly not U.S. citizens," Kiffmeyer said. Some of the 32 also voted in the election. Both registering and voting are illegal for noncitizens.
Kiffmeyer said her staff discovered the possible criminal offenses by comparing voter registration cards to driver's license records, which now identify noncitizens visiting the United States on visas.

DIMOCRAP HERO
A Democrat, no doubt...
I HATE LIBERALS. THANK GOD BUSH WON! KERRY IS A _S C U M B A G_
Had to be a Dem. Had he been a Republican it would have been in the first paragraph of the article.
Any DUmmies missing this morning?
Tell us how you really feel.
I'll have to ditto you on that one.
Well if he is convicted and goes to jail, Hillary will make sure his voting rights are restored.
Did you read the rest of the article?
I didn't want to retister.
...register.
But remember - we must be certain that EVERY vote counts.
Poor Darin would have been disenfranchised had not all three of his votes been counted!
I guess a Republican running for President needs to get a large marging of victory to overcome all the Democrat voter fraud, as well as the phonomenon in close races of recounting the votes until the Democrat wins, while searching for "undiscovered votes" that might be lying around.
You can damn well bet..if voted for Republican, it
would be headlines in NY Times..and a Dan Rather
lead story..or Andy "the Dandy" Rooney. Wonder if
Fox News could pick up on this? Jake
Don't blame you. That's hard on your tister. Could eventually lead to chafing.
"thought he was entitled to vote in each precinct..."
what a crock! beyond stupidity. it's arrogance simple and pure.
Even a second grader couldn't get away with that excuse.
Believe me, if this guy had been a Republican it would not only be in the article, it would be the NYT's front page lead for a week.
