MILFORD, Neb. (AP) -- It took nearly four months, but to the relief of neighbors miles around, a burning manure pile has been extinguished.
David Dickinson, owner and manager of Midwest Feeding Co., said Wednesday that several weeks of pulling the 2,000-ton pile apart proved effective by late last week.
"We got far enough through it, that it quit," Dickinson said.

Ergot (fungus) I believe - while not exactly LSD I think it has essentially the same effect.

Someone in Connecticut (I think) with a dairy farm got a government loan to use manure by product methane (by heating it up). Their own little power plant powers over 330 homes.

The poop,
The poop,
The poop is on fire!
To: OXENinFLA
The grass clippings might have caused it. These fires happen sometimes although the feedlots a pretty good about turning the manure piles so they don't get so combustible.

Burning Manure Pile in Nebraska Goes Out
So, where are they going to build the next State Democratic Headquarters?
To: #1CTYankee
Large compost piles can spontaneously combust. So when Jabba the Kennedy comes on C-Span it might be worth it to watch for a few minutes .... you never know when he might burst into flames.

Do I dare ask how the fire started????Toward the bottom of the story, it says heat had built up inside the piles of manure that it set itself on fire.

Toward the bottom of the story, it says heat had built up inside the piles of manure that it set itself on fire.Yes, this story captures the very essence of Man's endless struggle against the forces of Nature.
IMHO, it deserves a Pulitzer.
