IRAQ war wobbler Jacques Chirac scuttled George Bushs fence-mending trip to Europe yesterday by cranking up a row over the future of Nato.
He embraced a German-led plot to ditch the alliance as the backbone of transatlantic relations, in favour of the European Union.
He also snubbed President Bush by speaking French at a dinner, despite having fluent English.

Let's srap NATO ... and invite Poland, England and a few others and make our OWN club of nations. I agree with you here - GW really needs to let France and Germany fall by the wayside - I hope we stick to our plans at removing US military bases out of Germany while at the same time doing all we can to hurt France's already failing economy.

"Why is Bush even trying with this POS frog?"
Because it's the presidential thing to do. When the axe falls on France, it won't be without a polite, "But we wanted to make ammends. Why didn't you take that opportunity when it was offered time and again?"
Pres. Bush's gentlemanly courtesies speak volumes to other 3rd world nations no different in their position, stature, or significance as France. Let there be no doubt in our minds, France is suffering because of its socialist leadership. It will continue to suffer and get much much worse.

"I don't know what Bush is up to here but I would not "misunderestimate" him. He is cunning and so are the people around him."
I agree. The way he called out the Syrians, and bitch-slapped Russia in public, in front of the europimps, was incredible and imo unprecedented. He's got something up his sleeve.
If I was playing poker with W right now, I'd be folding.
L'Idiot Chirac is calling and raising!

Ciao WestTexasWend,
"He also snubbed President Bush by speaking French..."
Bush will retaliate by talking sense.
LOL! Europe has made a profession out of underestimating your President. But here people still think that calling somebody a "cowboy" is an insult. What's wrong with plain talking, honest, fair, self-reliant... and CLEVER?
Anyway, from what I hear from my French friends, Chirac's days are numbered and a more America-friendly president will come. The same is probably true of Germany's Schroeder.
Even here in Italy, your Gambling Cowboy has left the left waffling in their underwear with all their moral chips lost and lots of uffs (bad spelling for eggs in French) on their simpering faces.
C'est bon, tres bon!
Ciao

Oh that is one of the best pics ever....classic...GO FROGGIES....(Why do we even have to entertain Chirac ...let them fend for themselves...the French and German economies are soaring...especially the unemployment rates)
To: CAluvdubya
I will tell you what President Bush is "up to". He is a straight shooter and a gentleman. Like the dems at home, the Europeans are not used to that. They can't believe he says what he means and means what he says. He is making nice with the euros right now. He is giving them a chance to get on board.
The train is leaving the station. If they don't get on, they will be left behind.

I saw this as a sign of respect: he spared Bush from hearing the non-sense.

Chirac just re-enforces my conclusion that he is a low-classed, priggish, sorry piece of cow dung. Rude is rude - no matter if it is a state dinner or one in your home. Rude behavior is an indication that one lacks character, decency, etc., and it is a trait that usually hides itself within someone who is untrustworthy.
I say we continue to boycott anything French.
To: wagglebee
Psst... Chirac has been had, and does not know it yet: he wasted his speechifying on a wax figure of GWB, while the actual president was in another place attending to more important affairs.
