Jesus said: "And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female, And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh? Wherefore, they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder." -from THE BIBLE: Matthew 19:4-6

Do "mainline" church's even bother to read the Bible anymore?? If they did, then the issue of homosexuality would be a no brainer.

Homosexuality = wrong

I didn't even have to go to seminary to know that.

The willingness of some African bishops to accept such oversight, crossing jurisdictional boundaries, is also criticized in the Windsor Report.

So let me get this straight.

Crossing "jurisdictional boundaries" set up by corrupt and apostate Anglican leaders is something so terrible as to be akin to spitting in the face of the Almighty and His law against homosexuality.

OK--got it.

The more liberal a church is, the more its destined to be irrelevant.

For most Christian churches, unity is part of the fundamental witness of Christian life, and the prospect of any further splintering within the body of Christ is anathema.

What these numbnuts fail to see because of their selfish arrogance is any gay is welcome but the church is not going to condone the perverted sin when the bible clearly defines it as such!

Our culture is slipping and at a time when we need moral direction many of our churches are remaining silent.
Maybe they are afraid to vocalize their opposition to the things happening to our culture because their congregations are dwindling and they don't want to upset those that remain. If this is so ,and I fear that it is , this is very unfortunate .
When my family goes by various churches on Sunday morning on the way to our church we see many empty church parking lots on the way.
Our nation and people need to get back to the basics and back into our churches and our churches need to address the cultural changes in a true and biblical sense. If this doesn't occur then we will continue to slip.

This is the merely the latest manifestation of unisexualism.

Some believe that seual differences are minimal and that all sexual prohibitions are oppressive, whether one is refering to homosexuality, pederasty, or beastiality.

Unfortunately, these people control our educational system, our media and our entertainment industries. The propaganda movie 'Kinsley' and the many who gave it high regard is proof of this control as Kinsey was a pervert whose research involved the molestation of young children. Lets not even go into to Polanski incident more than to mention that this man sodomized a 13 year old girl and he is hailed as some kind of persecuted hero by the entertainment media elite and is never mentioned in school history classes.

I have a difficult time understanding how it is that that the conservative movement has had a completel inability to stop this from happening.

What happened?

Could it be that earlier generations of conservatives lost the struggle over earlier issues that we now accept as truthful, and the public turned on them?

Could it be that men like Senator McCarthy, General Douglas MacArthur, FBI Director Hoover, and others were abandoned for daring to oppose the spread of bad ideas in their day, and in losing this fight lost any conservative influence in these institutions?

I cant help but think that the demotion of Trent Lott over nothing but the posturing lies of shake-down artists like Jesse Jackson is of the same sort of abandonment and betrayal.

Conservatives always seem willing to turn on each other when it suits them and throw stragglers to the leftist wolves.

That such fiendish people as the Polanski/Kinsley supporters control our educational system, media and entertianment industry should be considered proof of this sort of inhouse blood-letting as even the most incompetent opposition could rid our institutions of learning, information and entertainment of these perverts in a nation hostile to them by a huge majority.

The next time I hear people spread scandal about a conservative like Trent Lott, I will ask them when the time will come that Polanski get his jail time or that Kinsely be denounced for pederasty instead of piling on the band wagon to pillory another conservative.

"US mainline churches have been riven by the debate hemorrhaging members for years."

They ignore the Word of God, attempt to remain socially relevant, embrace every liberal dogma and ideology that comes down the pike, and end up preaching their watered down milquetoast drivel to empty pews.

I am an Episcopalian.

Christianity and Western Civilization are inextricably conjoined--the attempts of contemporary Europeans to disentangle them notwithstanding.

One of the greatest things about Christianity is that it has been so profoundly influenced by Greek Civilization, the Reformation, the Enlightenment, and the other forces that have made Western Civilization one of mankind's greatest blessings and greatest accomplishments. Christianity has evolved with Western Civilization.

God's Truth--which is the only truth--is constantly revealed. The cosmos is God's holy scripture; His Truth is there for everyone to read who searches for truth. This is the basis of the miraculous accomplishments of the people of the West.

God did not write down everything that He had to reveal to us in one tome or even a collection of tomes and then do a disappearing act.

His Truth is far more vast than any human imagination could begin to fathom. The entire cosmos is His holy scripture. We will never exhaust its revelations.

Discoveries, technological breakthroughs, new insights--all are miracles in a very real sense.

The eradication of smallpox, for example, is a miracle. It was done only through the discovery of Truth as revealed in God's cosmos.

We can pray for a cure for diabetes and cancer. It will no doubt be revealed--as a miracle--through the discoveries, by non-pious men and women perhaps--of basic Truths revealed by God in His cosmos.

New understandings about homosexuality have been discovered in recent years. Many of us--including those of us who are heterosexual--have tried to understand them and to apply such understanding to our lives.

Obviously, sexuality is a basic human drive, similar to hunger, thirst, survival--AND a longing for oneness with God--whose purpose is procreation, just as the purpose of the hunger drive is sustenance and the purpose of the thirst drive is maintanence of water balance.

We do sublimate these basic drives into pleasing activities that make us happy. Hunger is sublimated into delightful cuisines, for example; thirst into wonderful wines and, for some, beers, etc.; survival into competitive sports perhaps. Sex is sublimated into many wonderful things such as candlelit dinners, haute couture, dancing, art, etc., et al.

Such things can also be perverted--hunger into self-destructive, even fatal, overeating and obesity; thirst into alcoholism; etc.

It cannot be argued--to me, anyway--that homosexuality is normal or a variation of normal, no matter how the psychiatric association may argue.

However, it is clear that some people are inherently and unchangeably homosexual. This is reality and a fact of life.

These people must be given acceptance, respect, freedom, safety, encouragement, and freedom from persecution. They deserve these things as much as anyone does.

Furthermore--these are people we are talking about! Full of courage and honor and beauty and all the wonderful things that all people embody!

Christianity must provide a place for them. Obligate homosexuality is God's creation. Homosexual's are God's children. They are endowed with His love. They need nurturing and sustenance, and churches must provide them with it. So must those of us who are benevolent.

My wife and I have a number of homosexual friends and aquaintances, of both sexes. They are good people. Their sexuality is certainly of no impediment to my admiration and respect for them.

Homosexuals have a right to legal protection of their rights, including the ability to provide legally for the protection of those they love through wills etc. And if anything is included in the right to the pursuit of happiness, it is the right to choose one's mate--or in homosexual parlance, one's "partner"--in general usage, of course, among normal people, one's wife or husband.

However, government should not redefine marriage to involve anything other than one man and one woman.

And churches should not ordain priests or bishops who openly practice homosexuality.

And homosexuality must not be considered merely an alternative lifestyle or taught to children as merely one of life's choices.

US mainline churches have been riven by the debate for years. For most Christian churches, unity is part of the fundamental witness of Christian life, and the prospect of any further splintering within the body of Christ is anathema. Yet the cost of unity is the issue troubling many.

This paragraph certainly doesn't sound like it was written by someone knowlegable in the faith. Unity cannot be maintained at the expense of God's truth. Those churches that wish to ignore God's law and writings regarding homosexuality are free to do so... but hardly are they part of the faith.

Psychologically damaged individuals, often victims of abuse themselves, continuing on a path of self destruction being legitimized by enablers is NOT compassion and is NOT part of the faith.

God is a loving father, and like all fathers he loves his children... that doesn't mean he truly loves them, and loves them enough to say NO. Leftists are perverting everything they touch... they just want to hear "you are forgiven" they want to ignore the "now go and sin no more".

What a misleading leftist headline

It should read "liberal church leaders struggle to impose homosexual politics over church teachings."

There is no struggle other that in the mind of the looney leftists and their mental hoop jumping to allow for homosexual access to the flock. Makes you wonder who has the larger homosexual priest scandal.

If the question of homosexuality makes them "struggle", they can't be a much of a church.
