Muslims Wake Up - Response to Freedom House Investigation
Free Muslims Against Terrorism ^ | 2-20-05 | FMAT

Posted on 02/21/2005 2:09:20 PM PST by Bob J

Muslim-bashing. That's the accusation many of my fellow Muslims now hurl at the various news outlets for their news stories about a Freedom House investigation that found extremist Islamic literature in some leading American mosques. This name-calling is unfortunate.

Since 1980, the Muslim world has experienced an enormous growth of religious fanaticism and extremism the likes of which Islam has not experienced in its 1,400 years. This movement continues to grow because of the spread of Wahhabi Islam; a sect that used to number no more than one percent of all Muslims, but because of money and technology, has spread to more areas around the world.

Extremism is also growing because of an ideology called political Islam. The basis of political Islam is the rejection of secularism and the belief that the mosque and the state should be completely intertwined. Unfortunately, history has shown that when politics and religion are completely intertwined, disaster results.

Most importantly, extremism in the Muslim world continues to grow because most Muslims are unwilling to admit that we have a problem with extremism and support for terrorism. The response by Muslims to the Freedom House report is not the first time that the Muslim community resorted to denial and accusations of Muslim-bashing when presented with evidence of Muslim culpability.

After September 11, many in the Muslim world chose denial and hallucination rather than face up to the sad fact that Muslims perpetrated the 9/11 terrorist acts. After 9/11, many Muslims, including religious leaders and "intellectuals," blamed 9/11 on a Jewish conspiracy, and went as far as fabricating a tale that 4,000 Jews did not show up for work in the World Trade Center on that day.

Since 9/11, the world has watched in horror as hundreds of schoolchildren were murdered in Russia by Chechen Muslim terrorists. Scores of civilians were murdered by Islamic terrorists in Spanish train bombings. Many others have been murdered in suicide bombings in buses, restaurants and other public places, human beings have been beheaded, two Russian passenger planes were blown out of the sky, and many, many atrocities that are too long to mention. All carried out by Muslims.

With all the evidence that Islam is facing a crisis, one wonders what it will take for Muslims to realize that those who commit mass murder in the name of Islam are not just a few fringe elements. What will it take for Muslims to realize that we are facing a crisis potentially more deadly than the AIDS epidemic? What will it take for Muslims to realize that there is a large, evil movement that is turning what was a peaceful religion into a death cult?

Will Muslims wake up before it is too late? Or will we continue blaming an imaginary Jewish conspiracy and entities like The Dallas Morning News for all our problems? The blaming of all Muslim problems on others is a cancer that is destroying Muslim society. And it must stop.

Muslims must wake up, look inward and put a stop to many of our religious leaders who spend most of their sermons teaching hatred, intolerance and violent jihad. We should not be afraid to admit that as Muslims we have a problem with violent extremism. We should not be afraid to admit that so many of our religious leaders belong behind bars, and not behind a pulpit.

Only moderate Muslims can challenge and defeat extremist Muslims. We can no longer afford to be silent. If we remain silent to the extremism within our community, then we should not expect anyone to listen to us when we complain of stereotyping and discrimination by non-Muslims. We should not be surprised when the world treats all of us as terrorists. And we should not be surprised when we are profiled at airports.

Simply put, not only do Muslims need to join the war against extremism and terror, we need to take the lead in this war.

So, the "Free Muslims Against Terrorism" is the equal of Hitler...they must have been promoted while I was away at CPAC.

Bob, what's with your soldier bashing? This is twice now you've strongly implied Gern is a coward. That's completely out of line.

"In conclusion I would suggest not to be overly swayed by this lone voice in the wilderness. He is espousing a "perfect and sane" Islam that doesn't exist, nay, has never existed."

And if you have any say in it, never will.

Does anyone else get the feeling that there are some here who would gleefully step on any budding Islamic modernity that might eventually rise and challenge the outdated heterodoxy of the Mullahs? It's almost as if they are praying no moderate Islamic group arises so they can keep their twisted armegeddon calandar date clear of conflicts.

I'll say it again, if this comes to pass it will be the American soldier and American mothers and fathers who pay the price...not those of the bleacher denizens or those from other countries.

Muslims whole religion is based on the Koran. What does it say? Do you even know? The entire population of Islam believes the Koran to be the word of Allah and it is their duty to do what it says, no exceptions. Read it.

I never implied Gurn was a coward but that it was easy to advocate open wordlwide warfare when one will be comfortably esconsed in ones easy chair.

The burden and price of this kind of action will be paid by our men and women in the service. I believe that must be taken into consideration when one advocates the type of violence as Gurn does.

Let Gurn come on a fight his own battles. Does Gurn believe the price we pay in terms of death and disability to our servicemen and women is worth the type of worldwide jihad against Muslims he advocates? Has he thought this through?

I think that is a fair question.

They say what is expediant at the time to get you to believe or obfuscate their intentions. I guess you've never had anyone lie to you.

So, if I haven't served in the Armed Forces, that makes me enligible to hold/voice an opinion?

Why not just give me 3/5ths of a vote and we'll be done with it.

Okay, I guess we'll just have to kill them all.

We lost more soldiers in 3 days fighting during WWII and you think this World War is going to be different?

They've had 1350 years. Is it your contention that now is the time that Muslims will start behaving like human beings? I suggest you read some of the books of Bernard Lewis.

Your Post 36:Of course, none of these people are wearing a uniform or will be in a position to be put on the front lines of this "global war". I'd say a pretty safe position from which to "let loose the dogs of war" rhetoric.

Your Post 90: Our soldiers would be in a shitstorm, you'd safely be in the dollar bleachers where you could cheer on the blood games and heckle the unit officers whenever they drop the ball.

There are a lot of Freepers, myself included, who beleive Muslims lie easily. The lies in your posts indicate that you may be Muslim.

How many do you think we need to kill? Just the ones who carry out Jihad? Maybe the ones who preach it? How about the ones who support it? The ones who donate money for it? How about the ones that believe it? The list goes on and on. It is their duty as Muslims to do what they are doing. It is the entire religion, not the individual. You view things from your perspective and expect them to view things from your perspective. They don't.

No. It just means you never cared enough about your country to volunteer, and it makes you a gutless puke for saying I have my only because I'm -- what was it -- "comfortably ensconsed in an easy chair," when I voluntarily served my country.

How about we put all our cards on the table and let the viewers decide for themselves. I'll even go first which allows you the luxury of seeing my points and framing your dissent for maximum throttle.

1. We cannot win an all out war with 1 billion people. We have neither the resources nor the political capital to survive such a campaign.

2. The dems will eat us alive once all the body bags start coming home, making the world safe for Hillary, Kennedy and whatever future commies are hurled from our wonderful system of higher education.

3. There are tens, maybe hundreds of millions of moderate Muslims who are disgusted by what is being done to their religion but stay silent or they and their families get the midnight garrot from moles planted throughout the world (note- see NJ) .

4. The only way we can win this war against Muslim extremism is to encourage, support and align ourselves with these moderate Muslim elements and use them as front line of defense and offense against the jihadists.

5. Medieval Islam can be pulled into the 21st century.

6. Bush has made the right moves by helping facilitate modern democracies in both Afghanistan and Iraq. These can not only be used as examples but also sources of support in the coming war with the most extreme of Islamic/Wahhabists elements.

7. All people thirst for democracy.

8. All people will defend those democracies if they believe they have at least a 25% chance of doing so. American support is worth 20%.

9. Defeatists are dangerous to the human spirit. The sap our energy and our will and must be opposed at every turn.

There is more, but I will allow you to respond first.

" It just means you never cared enough about your country to volunteer..."

So if someone didn't volunteer for military service, they don't care about their country. Nice. I have a feeling some here may disagree with you.

Don't let him bait you, he's just trying to piss you off so he can complain and get you banned. We know the truth and he is not interested. That says a lot about who he is.

than why does Bush say Islam is a religion of peace...I don't even say that.....I just defended moderate Muslims that speak out if you read my posts.....not the Muslim face in general.....must mean that I'm much smarter than our Pres about this kind of stuff along with all the other political pumdits........Bush must be an idiot huh?

You have no idea who I am and I doubt you care. I have never advocated the banning of anyone except on one occasion and that was an extreme case.
