I don't remember him ever mentioning her in anything of his I've read, but it's the kind of thing he would obsess on.

He wrote some entertaining stuff in the 1970s. I remember one excellent piece about Mohammed Ali and the Kentucky Derby is a classic. Even the bad stuff was interesting because one kept reading it to see if it would get better.

Sad, but if it was a suicide I do believe all the drugs acid, and whatever else he took in mass quantities probably had something to do with his deppression. They're finding out more and more, that a lot of these drugs even though they may have been taken a long time ago, considerably change and disturbs the brain chemistry for years to come. May he rest in peace!

I am conservative too, and yet HST is one of my favorite writers. Go figure. I think it was his unique ability to magnify the absurd in any situation. He had a hell of a sense of humor too. RIP HST.

I always thought it a little odd that the person who turned me on to this book in college was the absolutely most conservative guy I knew on campus. Well, maybe. But we conservatives do read a lot ... although liberals would claim otherwise.
