Job data should give pause to immigration advocates
Star Tribune ^ | February 20, 2005 | Steven A. Camarota

The recovery from the recession of 2001 is often described as "jobless." But this is not entirely correct. My analysis of Census Bureau data shows that between March 2000 and 2004, the number of adults working in United States actually increased.

What's interesting, however, is that all the net growth in jobs went to immigrant workers. In fact, while the number of unemployed adult native-born workers increased by 2.3 million over this time, the number of employed immigrants rose by 2.3 million.

Significantly, about half the growth in immigrant employment was from illegal immigration. --------------- Our analysis also shows little evidence that immigrants only take jobs Americans don't want. It is true that immigration has its biggest impact at the bottom end of the labor market in relatively low-paying occupations done by less-educated workers.

Nonetheless such occupations still employ tens of millions of native-born workers

RE: Federal Government's top Immigration Official "blew his brains out - while driving."

Thomas DeRouchey was an interim special agent charged with dismantling violent criminal operations associated with immigrant smuggling.

A googled source reports on Mr. DeRouchey's own description of just how bad these people are. They had just killed four people. "This tragic incident underscores how ruthless and violent organized smuggling has become," said Thomas DeRouchey, Special Agent-in-Charge of investigations in Phoenix. "The smugglers' only motive is money. They don't care about the human cost. " (November 5, 2003)

I don't know the outcome. Has it been proven beyond doubt that he "blew his brains out - while driving?"

Consider the consequences of a shooting death of a federal marshall in Idaho. Dozens of federal agents were dispatched with "rules of engagement" that authorized shooting any adult that moved -- even if they were holding an infant.

Ditto Waco, Texas.

Now this. No gun battle. Just a federal a agent who "blew his brains out - while driving?"

Dozens of federal agents send condolences to family and friends of Mr. DeRouchey.

"Friends and family of an INS special agent say they are baffled by Thomas DeRouchey's suicide," says another googled source. (March 19, 2004)

They are not alone.

"What isn't mentioned here is that they have taken many good paying jobs and turned them into minimum wage pay.

Happened right here in construction, where a lot of jobs used to pay very well, but now pay peanuts.

And the price of housing has soared."

Exactly!

"Only about 5 percent of lawyers and 6 percent of journalists are immigrants, compared with one-fourth of construction laborers and one-third of janitors. When more educated and affluent people say, "Immigrants only take jobs Americans don't want," what they really mean is that immigrants only take jobs they don't want.

When businesses say, "Immigrants only take jobs Americans don't want," what they really mean is that given what they would like to pay, and how they would like to treat their workers, they cannot find enough Americans. Therefore, employers want the government to continually increase the supply of labor by nonenforcement of immigration laws and keeping legal immigration levels as high as possible. This in turn holds down wages and benefits, especially at the bottom end of the labor market..."

Your post is right on the money.

If they can find a way to do it, this will also occur to the tech sector, leaving the 2nd shipload ( Douglas Adams reference ) to be running things.

"I understand what you are saying but most of these guys that won't take the apprentice program know what they are saying also. You will take the program and work for us at about half of what the job is worth. Get in line with the illegals and plan on having a couple of roomates so you can make ends meet. Welcome to the third world buddy!!!"

Correct! Anyone who has any ties to the construction industry can see what's happening. In parts of this country where illegals have infiltrated into the construction trades, the wages have dropped back to what they were in the 1970s - if you, as an American citizen, can even get a job in construction. Illegals will get first choice.

My father finished concrete back in Tulsa in the 1970s and made $10.00 per hour - no benefits. Concrete finishers are making around $12.00 per hour now in 2005 - still with no benefits. In the 1990s, concrete finishers were making $15.00 to $20.00 per hour.

Guess what changed between the 1990s and now? You guessed it - illegals heavily infiltrated the Tulsa construction trades.

"Free Trade, out-sourcing, open borders. We are screwed, big time. Someday soon Mr and Mrs Joe Six pack is going to realize how badly the neo cons in the GOP screwed them and there will be hell to pay."

I woke up in January 2004 when Bush made his "jobs Americans won't do" speech.

"Same old sell out of working class Americans.... you know... the same guys who are in the front lines in Iraq, Afghanistan and everywhere our armed forces serve."

You are so right...I know several people who are/were in Afghanistan and Iraq. They're all Reservists, all blue-collar workers and every one of them joined the Reserves to supplement their income. According to many on this forum, when they're stateside working at their blue-collar jobs, they're just a bunch of lazy bums. When they put on the uniform and deploy, though, they're heroes. Talk about a schizophrenic perspective!

Official story goes that he was on his way to DMAFB for press conference with Hutchinson. There were witnesses who said he was doing 75-80, but have never seen their names identified in the papers.

I do know that there were significant increases in apprehensions the first quarter of 2004 for the below sectors:

A 51% increase occurred along the east and central Arizona border, coupled with a 60% increase along the southwestern Arizona border and a 38% increase in San Diego.

(Sources: U.S. Border Patrol sector offices, as reported in the Washington Times. San Diego data covers October 1 through April 4; El Paso covers October 1 through March 27).

Once this group of illegals are legalized, employers will have no need for them and start hiring the illegal ones again.

Yup, the NEW illegals, and there will be millions more of them because we "solved" the problem by amnesty, remember? The border is STILL not closed.

Hey Bayourod...here's an article you can sink your teeth into.

This article refers to all the American "losers" as you called them, who have to compete with illegals for jobs!

More CIS misinformation. They throw out a few old statistics and then draw conclusions not even remotely supportable by the numbers.

I can see why people who are persuaded by this article can't keep a job.

Yes, you are correct. My son just graduated from an Atlantic 10 school and is Fortunate enough to have been hired by a huge finance/investment company.

He is considered fortunate to have gotten the new job because it MAY have a future. However, he has kept his old job as well and now has 2 full time jobs.

It is sad though that both jobs pay the same. The same paycheck from a large corporation that requires a great resume and an education, as from a job that would hire a high school drop out.

Point being that the market is flooded at all levels. Corporations know that the better job pickings are few, so that newbies have to take anything they can get.

Scares the hell out of me for my children.

Subject: Abusive fliers posted on newspaper's door

I read the article on the Internet entitled "Abusive fliers posted on newspaper's door."

What is happening to freedom of speech?

If one does not agree with what is published in a newspaper, that does not give a group the right to try and silence the writer. The Latino activists referred to in the article are the ones behaving like brown shirted Nazis.

Demanding that a school newspaper only publish what they deem fit.

What is interesting is that the group MECHA - swarming upon the American citizen opposed to illegal immigration - have in their very motto racism!

Below, I just copied from a MECHA website their motto:

"Everything for the race. Everything outside the race, nothing."

It is okay for Hispanics to be racists. That racism - the textbook definition of racism - is just fine. But let an American citizen stand up for the LAW and the MECHA racists cry racism!

America is a nation of laws. Illegal immigration is not about racism. It is about upholding the rule of law.

It is a world where up is down and down is up when MECHA steps onto the scene. They are the working definition of imposing racism as they call others racists!

I applaud this college student for his courage.

This student is protected under the Constitution and has the right to freedom of speech. Fascist styled groups like MECHA seek to take away this American citizen's rights.

Are they not the group behaving like Nazis?
