[World News]: RICHMOND, Va., Feb. 19 : Virginia lawmakers appeared stunned when a lesbian minister opened their session Friday by asking God to "convict" officials opposed to same-sex unions.
The Rev. Debra Peevey, pastor of the Journey of the Heart Ministries in Reston, was invited by Brian Moran, an Alexandria Democrat, to deliver the session's opening prayer, the Washington Times said Saturday.
"Holy One, convict those who are using their power not to lead or to guide, but to harm gay and lesbian citizens, a small minority within this commonwealth," she said Friday. "We need to be reminded of what unites us, not pitted against one another. A house divided, you have warned us, cannot stand."
Delegates' surprise at the invocation quickly turned to irritation, the Times said.
Delegate Christopher Saxman said the pastor's "lecture" was "unfortunate," noting it was the first time in his three-year legislative career that he stopped praying during the opening prayer.
"It's supposed to be a time when we don't have politics on the floor," he complained.

In Christian-talk, "convict" means to change their hearts.

Behold, the LORD'S hand is not so short that it cannot save; Nor is His ear so dull that it cannot hear. But your iniquities have made a separation between you and your God, and your sins have hidden His face from you so that He does not hear. -- Isa. 59:1-2

Couldn't they find a real minister? What did they expect when they hired her? Tolerance?

I just want to make it clear I do not live in Rep. Moran's district. I live in the real Virginia where "the women are strong, the men are good-looking, and all of the children are above average."

How exactly does she think this will help her 'cause'? She's using the liberal model: insult, attack, shock, offend....and LOSE. May they never learn.
