PS: Pol, in that book I told you about the other day -- the one where the Reagan was deployed in the Mediterranean -- I'm at the point in the story where she has just sent her helos and special ops teams in to rescue some Americans and others trapped in Gaza in the middle of a Palestinian civil war. As I said, the story is entertaining, if overheated. It is set in the year 2010. The rescue operation was a success (natch!) and the good guys are just being deposited on the Reagan's flight deck.

How many of the people in this picture can all of you identify?

Ok, I can't identify any of the aides in the background, but left to right in the foreground are former Republican House Minority Leader Bob Michael; former Democrat Speaker of the House, Tipp O'Neill; President Reagan; and former Sen. Howard Baker. I don't know what job Baker was in at the time. Whether he was still in the senate or in the administration. If he was at a meeting of the president with congressional leaders, I'd say he was still in the senate.

All is well where I live, though. No storm damage.

Good to hear. Take care.
Will be checking Fox and c-span over the next days
for the Prez and the trip to Europe.

BTW, I'm not sure who gave that speech from which you extracted the quote, but it sounds like something Reagan would say in a State of the Union address. I assume from the wording, that it would be his 2nd SOTU, if I'm correct at all about who gave the speech.

Ah, there's the witch, Malveaux. That was a truly nasty little question she asked the other day. I'd love to spit in her face.

I didn't even know who Howard Baker was. Google informs me that he was appointed ambassador to Japan in 2001--if that's the same guy.

It's the same guy. He's held a number of different jobs in Republican politics. He married former Republican senator (from Kansas) Nancy Kassebaum around the time she retired from the senate. They are both coming home from Japan soon, if they haven't already, because he's retiring from the ambassadorial post.

Wonderful museum. I visited it three years ago.

I'd love to visit it someday. Hopefully, when the President visits we'll get some good photos to post.

Bubba is a senior citizen now

Senior citizen at 58? I hope not! I'm 51 and me and my purple finger nail polish have no intention of going quietly into the old age home any time soon.

Do you mean scenes were cut from the DVD or that cut scenes were added back.

I haven't seen it either ... will have to go rent it after all the raves.

Relax! Being 51 today is like being 31 40 years ago.

REally, I mean it!

Secret tapes of the president
The president was secretly taped by a friend. Maybe former friend. The liberal press failing once again, because it shows the president to be an honest man.

Thanks for the pictures of our W and of his Dad. Hope 41 isn't ready to pull his hair out, having to put up with BC for a whole trip. But on the other hand, it is better than if Hitlery had gone there with him! *yuk* God give him a safe trip, and also give our President a safe trip to Europe, and help him to zot the leaders over there so they don't know what hit them!

Awww, Gretchen, sorry I am so late reading everything, but that story just put a huge lump in my throat!

...and brought me back to the realization of what is important in life! Also, I am a former military spouse, and my son is military, so I really related to the story!

**I just think Clinton's frat-party lifestyle is catching up to him. He's the same age as GWB and Laura -- 58. Bubba is a senior citizen now, and time has a way of writing our past on our faces as we age.**

I agree Wolfie (if I may call you that as well) he looks so old, only he knows if he feels it but he reminds me of Jimmy Carter and he must be over 20 years older. On another thread yesterday I posted a photo of Dick Cheney and Bill Clinton both taken this week to compare the difference; it was stark especially when you consider the VP is 5-6 years older and his health history.

The MSM bang on that the VP is old for his years and suggest he is not fit enough to do his job which IMHO is ridiculous but never a word about Clinton. They fawn over him congratulate him on the UN appointment over the Tsunami and follow him over the visit with GHWB never a peep out of them how bad he looks. I suspect this is because they know he has not bounced back from surgery that well because of his lifestyle rather than health issues and that they do not want dwelt upon.
