I just think they should keep their left-wing politics to themselves, otherwise the marketplace should rule as to what does or doesn't get made.

I don't want the moral majority determining what kind of movies get made - that would totally suck.

I am not advocating government censorship, or even necessarily free market retaliation against the films created by these Hollywood leftists.

But I **do** believe that "to whom much is given, much is required."

So I finally start going through, page by page, the Oscar coverage in today's Slimes (that's right... still reading  it so that you don't have to). And then I almost had a heart attack.

 

The "E"/"Calendar Part 1" Section is dedicated to Oscar coverage, E1 starting it all off with a big pic of Best Actor winner Adrien Brody smooching presenter Halle Berry and the beginning of the story.

 

Following it in to E2 and E3, there are a bunch of huge picture of various winners from the night, the top of each page prefaced with a huge bold quote.

 

On the left side (heh, heh) is one quote: 

 

 

"Why do you come to the Academy Awards when the world is in such turmoil?

Because art is important."

Glad to hear it... too bad not all 'conservatives' agree. The group that put up those billboards (Citizensunited.org)links to some that don't: Christian Coalition, Concerned Women for America, Family Research Council, Eagle Forum.... All would censor 'Hollywood' if they could; and I think you can tell a good deal about an organization by who they link too. So, count me out. I don't live near enough anyway but I don't particulary care for the company that this group keeps - at least not on this issue I don't.

I just went to see Constantine last night, and liked it. It was the first movie in more than 6 months that I have gone to see. Otherwise, we rent or watch old movies on TV.

This is a far cry from what I used to do. I used to go almost every week or two. With the advancement of the moral decay during the Clinton administration, I began noticing that fewer and fewer movies were made that were redeeming. There's the cussing. There's the devil/evil forces crap that can't be stopped by religion for some reason. There's the evil priest. There's the point of view from the killer's perspective, which began long ago, and has intensified over the years. There's the remaking of old movies that studios thoughts should be 'updated' for some reason. There's the gay sub/plot line. There's the abortion/horrible parent plot line. There's the lack of moral core plot line. And, there's the good, simple ordinary life is trite, dull and stupid plot line.

Sometimes I think now that McCarthy was right, and that the Communists, or, at least all those that are truly evil, have taken over control of film making. For going on two generations now, we have witnessed a need to thrill and titillate that reaches beyond the previous level, abandoning what is good in human nature for what is at the very least not so good.

Since when is it a bad thing for parents or anyone to see a just plain good movie that warms the heart and is a good movie?

The night before my father had his fatal heart attack, I took my parents to see The Natural, having bragged about how good it was. I am glad it was that kind of movie, and not something like what is produced now. I am also, I am sad to say, glad he didn't live to see what is happening now. I am also worried that generations of children are growing up thinking all this is normal and all right, and expecting even more, which is a frightening thought.

We expect that SOME the TV cameras, wire service photographers and print journalists will start arriving as early as noon, but MOST of the media attention should be from 3 pm to 5 pm – during the Red Carpet ceremonies.

The limos should start driving west on Hollywood Blvd (from Wilcox, or Vine) at about 3 pm – right past our position in front of the billboard at Hollywood and Whitley.

Our current plan is to have an advance team (led by Ted Hayes and RonDog) arrive at Hollywood and Highland – to "stake out" a position near the steel fence facing the Red Carpet arrival area. This area will rapidly be OVERWHELMED by Oscar fans from all across the USA, as they squeeze in to perhaps get a glimpse of their favorite star’s arrival...

Anyone arriving before noon should attempt to hook up with us there. Ted and I may decide to give up our “front row” positions to others, who may be able to hold signs.

The SECOND team will gather in front of the billboard at Hollywood and Whitley – three blocks east of Highland. Some time around noon, Ted and I will break away from our "front row" positions, and move to join the second team (at Hollywood and Whitley) – where we will lead a "parade" down Hollywood, from Whitley to as close to Highland as we can get.

We will know more soon.

Our current plans are for ME to dress as "Michael Moore" -- and for TED to dress as "Uncle Sam" -- who will be pummeling me, among other things. :o)

American flags are always a good idea, but flag poles, and lumber over 1/4 inch thick are NOT allowed.

Ted LOVES the idea of having as many purple fingers as possible.

I liked your story about The Natural; I love that movie too.

I think you're exaggerating though the direction Hollywood is going in. At least regarding 'sex and violence', I think there's less in the movies now than there was decades ago. Much of that has to do with the change to a more conservative political atmosphere in the country as a whole, but also because of political correctness - they sort of get it from both the left and the right now. And to be frank, I think blaming Clinton is kind of ridiculous. It was more 'anything goes' during the eighties than the nineties, imo. The eighties was the heyday of the big, violent action movies and the gorey, slasher flick - both of which always included some nudity or sex. Movies are tamer now IMO. But if its the 'themes' or stories you don't care for then it's up to 'conservatives' to make their own movies, instead of trying to restrict what 'liberals' make - and thats unfortunately what many want to do.
