at the corner of Hollywood and Highland at 6AM.

The rest of you can show up at 12 noon at Hollywood and WHITLEY
to march three blocks west on Hollywood to the corner of HIGHLAND.

Calling all creative FReepers (and lurkers)!
The L.A. Chapter needs YOUR advice.

As many of you know by know, the Hollywood Resistance Force
(also known as the L.A. Chapter of the Free Republic Network)
is planning a "Rally For Responsibility" outside this year's Academy Awards.

FReeper rantblogger has suggested that we bring GIANT foam hands to the rally,
with the index finger painted PURPLE...

...to show OUR solidarity with the brave Iraqi voters,
and to remind the leftists in Hollywood that if they had THEIR way,
Iraq would not now be free.

I have to agree, but you are leaving out the beginnings, as least as I saw them, of such ultra violent filmaking that started in the late 60s by Sam Peckinpah.

If I remember correctly, it was a dispute over writers credits in The Wild Bunch that prompted the writers guild to rewrite rules that now state that a finished script must have at least 60% of it written by the director before he or she can claim a writer credit.

That's because the original script was written by a stuntman named Roy Sickner (my next door neighbor in Malibu). He wrote it for Lee Marvin originally, but Lee turned it down and gave it to William Holden. The studio was nervous about a first time writer and handed it off to Walon Green for a polish. It's a long story, but Roy got screwed out of everything. I was little, but I remember Roy coming over to our house drunk and crying.

I'm not sure what this has to do with our discussion, except that the sixties were definitely the beginning of film's downward spiral. But Peckinpaw's invention, the "Dance of Death", sure seems tame next to today's average, everyday teen slasher film.

I spent a BIG chunk of Friday night on a recon mission -- right in the belly of the beast, and HERE are my recommendations:

1 - RALLY START POINT: Hollywood & HIGHLAND
(NOT Hollywood and WHITLEY)
We will have to promote the "Thank you, Hollywood" billboard in some other way.
It is just TOO FAR away from the "main event" at Hollywood & Highland.

2 - PARKING: 1718 N. Cherokee Ave.
(just north of Hollywood Blvd, near Musso & Frank's Grill)
Parking inside a SAFE, guarded building -- only $6 for all day.
Only two short blocks to the rally .

3 - COLOR: Wear something BRIGHT RED
Or PURPLE, if you prefer
We want to STAND OUT in the crowd.
We plan to pass out the giant purple fingers some time after noon - first come, first serve.

4 - post-Rally FOOD and FELLOWSHIP: International House of Pancakes
Hollywood I.H.O.P. - 7006 W. Sunset Blvd., at Orange Dr.
One block SOUTH on Highland, one block WEST on Sunset.
We can WALK there after the rally, and their prices are reasonable.
They are currently holding space in their back room for a party of TWENTY.
We will probably DOUBLE that number, and they will still have room for us.

I know how you feel. I use to love to go to movies etc. Now I can't bring nyself to even rent one. I do try to support the conserv or Repub actors.
