Delegate Albo tries to raise taxes using state troopers
Virginia Club for Growth ^ | 2-18-2005 | Ben Sykes

Posted on 02/18/2005 3:22:33 PM PST by bensykes

A Northern Virginia anti-gun "Republican" legislator, Dave Albo, is trying to raise taxes through the back door on Virginians. And guess why he's doing it? To fill his own pockets! He wants to increase the fines for speeders and other serious traffic offense by hundreds of dollars. Why? I guess he wants to increase the size of the nanny state exponetially. The Virginia Club for Growth is all over it:

"On a personal level, for Del. Albo to be sponsoring such a bill also sets a terrible precedent. In proposing this legislation Albo is facing an apparent, if not actual, conflict of interest.

You see, Albo makes his living as an attorney representing traffic violators in court. A cynic could, therefore, conclude that Albo’s sole motivation in raising the fines and penalties imposed on traffic offenders is to ensure that more of them would seek attorneys to represent them in traffic court." - The Virginia Club for Growth

So Albo is raising taxes to line his pockets? And not even in an honest way...at least the liberals and socialists on the other side come out and say "I'm raising taxes". Albo hides behind state troopers who will now be roaming our streets looking for government revenue to feed into more pork and programs. WTF???

Regards, Ben Sykes

I don't know anything about Albo..........we've got enough bloody laws and taxes in this state....we don't need anymore.

"not worth the trouble" is how many points?

You'd better believe the smart guys hire a lawyer and challenge speeding tickets ~ particularly if they drive for a living.

It would appear from the tone of your response that you didn't know about points. You might check with the State Police on that one. Bet they laugh, and laugh, and laugh.

BTW, you get points for violating the HOV lanes too!

What you do in the Dakotas ought to be your business, and what we do in Virginia ought to be our business. This is a heavily traveled, highly congested urban environment.

You have nothing like it. No reason to worry ~ Dave isn't coming after you.

Why are so many of you people worried about fines?

Fines were established so you wouldn't have to go to jail. I think it'd be fine to reinstate the jail time. Just get rid of the fines ~ take the revenue enhancement out of the equation.

our past governor Bill Janklow (R) was the same type. he had it in for truckers (it was personal) so he got a huge increase in HP's and had them target truckers. he even had the DOT carry guns. then a DOT guy shot a unarmed trucker right in front of his wife and kids and that kinda looked bad.... gee, i wonder why?

then Janklow kills a guy on a motorcyle while speeding thru a stop light... he whined like a baby and never apologized to the family..

the laws never apply to them who love who hand them out it seems..

yeah I've never personally had a speeding ticket. I'm a law abiding america, dammit!

But seriously - that doesn't mean I don't see the stupidity of this law.

Enjoy the stupidity of the law. Without it your life wouldn't be worth a plug nickel out here on I95, mere footsteps from my home!

We had a guy in a SUV do an improper lane change on a curve several years ago on his way from I95 onto I495. He "tapped" a dumptruck in the next lane. It lost contact with the highway and went on a straight line instead of on a curve as intended by the driver.

Next thing you know it launched off the main roadway and came down on top of some other cars and killed the occupants.

The SUV driver got a minor ticket and went about his business.

Like I said, I favor prison to fines every time for this stuff.

Albo wrote a bill that lowers penalties for gay child molesters. Then he claimed it was an accident and revoked the bill. I'm not sure what to believe, but he disgraces his party with crap like that.

Yes but maybe there's something i didn't explain about this law:

It is meant for one purpose only: to raise revenue. It's supposed to raise 180 million next year alone. Should we really make our state troopers tax collectors? Who's next? The pharmacist? Teachers? Preachers?

hey - post a link before you smear somebody like that. That's not cool. You have any evidence of that?

I mean, I don't like this guy cause he's a damn rino. But where I come from, you provide evidence before you smear somebody.

It's "supposed to" or it "just does"?

I think things would be just fine to give all the revenue up from these traffic fines and simply have the state incarcerate the offenders for whatever period of time was needed ~ at the same time they can pay their board and keep same's anybody else in a motel.

Look if people like Martha Stewart can do the time, so can your friendly neighborhood reckless driver!

Well I'll just have to respectfully disagree. Cause I don't see a damn difference between raising revenue with a tax increase and being a coward and raising it on the backs of people who speed. This money goes directly into the highway fund.

you'd think so. but not for long. the NDL will change that. so now, every state highway law in the Union is my business.. and better be yours.

There's nothing urban about the Eastern Shore and I sure as heck am going to be worrying about this. If it doesn't bothe you, fine - keep it on the other side of the Bay and leave us all alone.
