Do you think that the league should contract some teams? Which ones? I would say Carolina, Columbus, Phoenix, Ottawa and Nashville. Maybe a few others.

Contract Columbus, Ottawa, Florida, Atlanta, Washinton, and Nashville. Move Carolina and Phoenix back to Hartford and Winnepeg, respectively.

No, don't contract Carolina. Move it back to Hartford. The NHL needs to stem the tide of exodosing fans with relocations to native markets.

And it's a sin that Dany Heatly isn't playing in someplace cold. (Or better yet, playing for the prison team.)

Florida would have to be one of those -- since it is probably in the worst financial shape of any U.S. team. And I would replace Columbus with Atlanta. Columbus, in fact, might be a model city for a slimmed-down NHL that is effectively a second-tier major sport in North America -- because it has a strong fan base (at this point, at least) and doesn't have to compete with either NBA or MLB teams.
