According to today's noon broadcast, video surfacing today shows the DI BEATING AND STRANGLING (WOWK's words), the recruit, one day before his death. After watching video of the admittedly harsh treatment recieved by the deceased recruit on channels 3 and 8, I tuned in to WOWK 13 to see a HUGE exaggeration (lie?). The anchor reported that video showed the recruit had been "beaten and STRANGLED" by the drill instructor the day before. No rational, sane individual could describe what what seen in the video as a beating or strangling - in much less inflammatory language, it could not even have been described as being "punched" or "choked". He was elbowed, and grabbed by the shirt, for crying out loud. While the treatment looked harsh, the words used to describe it in the report were completely UNTRUE. WOWK has apparently given in to Dan Rather-esqe, agenda-driven intentional misrepresentation of facts. The media has apparently declared open season on all things military.
Maybe, but Jim Mikulishevski (SP?) said on Imus this morning that higher-ups at the Pentagon were disturbed by what they saw on this video. I didn't like the way it came out, but I thought it sounded disturbing.
By the way, WOWK didn't show the video, just described the awful beating and strangling "for you". The other channels showed the video, which is either a completely different video than what WOWK described, or (more likely), the real account of the events.
Have any official charges been filed against anyone? What is link to story? Did soldier in video appear to be an action figure?
It was typical, every day Marine hazing by the DI, rough treatment, but no beating or strangling. A typical HUGE exaggeration by the media. Of course the Pentagon would be concerned, the DI did appear to slightly cross the line, but...
No link. The story isn't even up on WOWK's site. Pitiful reporting.
No, the video was real, the described account of the video on WOWK wasn't.
Do you have a link to the original story? How did he die?
First off, why would this have been filmed? Do you suppose that the Marines allowed the filming? Was there supposedly an ongoing problem with drill instructor? Or is this another case of a disgruntled Marine getting even with the core?
What needs to happen after these accusations are ajudicated (evidently they have to be ajudicated) is that the accusers must face trial for making the false accusations. That's the only way to stop this. It's like the ACLU coming into the schools and fishing for sexual harassment clients to bring a case. Someone is getting to these Marines who make the accusations.
Sorry, last part was poor attempt at humor.
Does anyone have a link to the video?
Does anyone have a link to the video?
Does anyone have a link to the video?
Chorus: "It's George Bush's fault", a "product of a lawless, Rumsfeld Defense Department". "Abu Ghirab - USA". Insert your own media tripe sound bite here.
No false accusations that I know of, except by the media completely misrepresenting the facts.
I got it, I'm just too steemed over more anti-military lies to laugh.
I saw the video this morning on MSNBC. I was outraged by it. His family is devasted. I hope those responsible are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. How dare they treat someone like that who is just wanting to defend his country! I also hope the family sues the military for everything they can get. I know this sounds harsh, but if you see that video....it is unacceptable!
If there had actually been beating and strangling, you can bet that the media would have reported it as flaying alive and lynching.
Didn't see the video clip of the recruit, who subsequently drowned, being (supposedly) abused. As a graduate of P.I. (albeit many years ago) I can assure you beating and strangling was common place in my day ... they had a term for it then ... it was called thumping. The prison scandal at Abu Gharib(sp?), to anyone who has survived Marine bootcamp, was laughable in comparison.
It is what seperates the men from the boys in basic training. Those who can take it are fit to fight, if you can't, you'll never withstand the pressure of combat. The media wants you to relate this to his death, but this is the same treatment ANY recruit recieves. They want to blur the line and inflame you into thinking it's realted. Hell, they'll call it a homicide by tomorrow - at the direct order of GW Bush, no less.
