A Way to Save Terri Schiavo
wotan | Feb 18, 2005 | wotan

Here's a way Jeb Bush may be able to save Terry Schiavo: Open an investigation into the possible assault that led to her comatose condition. Have the state pay for her maintenance to "preserve the evidence" and pay for language therapy for her so she can tell us what she knows about how she got into the coma. It struck me that the reason her husband wants her dead might be because he's afraid of what she'll say if she recovers. I don't see how a judge could possibly deny the state the right to preserve evidence of a serious assault.

Hope she's not dead yet.

Merry, I appreciate your honesty. Terri is an innocent women who needs to be with her family, she's not dying, and she's not even hooked up to any machines, your suggestion, a shot of death, is that fair? Is that how she should die? And, what about all the other "brain-dead" people across the country. Should we kill them all too?

If they won't suffer, then yes. There is time to live and a time to die. We put dogs in much better condition than Terry out of thereI will admit to watching some of the news footage last night and wondering what is an emotion vs. what is an actual movement. None of us know whether or not she would want to live like that as she left no living will. I also worry I worry that nature does not take its course anymore.... Would you support stem cell research if it could help Terry today? I appreciate that the governor is not going to grandstand and will abide by what the judge says. (Judge Greer who everybody here seems to dislike...)

"There is time to live and a time to die."

While true, do you really want the State to have the power over when one should live or die? Do you want a sole judge to act as your decider and legal guardian at the same time? Yes, the Judge has heard all the evidence, but he hasn't even met Terri, not even once. Merry, it's inhuman, where will they draw the line? Who will be next? First "brain-dead" then "dying" then "severely impaired" then "handicapped." Don't you see the slippery slope this is all heading down? I don't think the State should be afforded that right. I simply don't trust them enough. Besides, where's the checks and balances for Greer? He's one man calling all the shots for Terri.

"None of us know whether or not she would want to live like that as she left no living will."

That in of itself is a good enough reason to let Terri live. Can't we give her the benefit of the doubt?

"I worry that nature does not take its course anymore...."

That's one thing you can be sure of, Terri will die in the natural course, if she isn't starved to death. Nothing here to doubt.

"Would you support stem cell research if it could help Terry today?"

For me, merry, it's never o.k to take a life in order to save a life. Not anyone's life, o.k.? Adult stem cell research is creating treatment for many different diseases, and I obviously have no problem with that. With respect to embryonic research it's sick!! I am not alone in the school of thought that life begins at conception. When the mother's egg, meets with the sperm, 46 chromosomes are joined, you're entire innate identity is formed in the form of one zygote, human. It's freakin incredible! That life should be protected, it's a human life!! If I was dying of a disease the very last thing I would want is treatment developed by killing human embryos, aaahhhhh, no way, not me.

Raquel, you really don't know whether the Judge has ever seen Terry. This Judge that stayed the feeding tube or whatever that was yesterday has been absolutely raked over the coals in this forum. And none of us know Michael yet everyone writes these horrible things about him. Although yes I agree, he should divorce her. I do not agree with the laws continually being changed in favor of this or that. I don't think we're going to be killing handicapped people anytime soon. We are talking about a woman in a persistive vegetative state who cannot feed herself. I wish you, Raquel, well and hope that the right thing is done. I hope you are praying for the judge to make the right decision.

Repeated CAT scans of Schiavo's cranium shows she has no cerebal cortex.

This lie has been passed from one troll to next. Show us one of these imaginary CT scans. You can't, because you're lying.

An MRI will reveal the same thing.

Variation of the same lie. Put up, or shut up.

The imagery coupled with the flat EEG is unmistakable.

What "flat EEG?" Show us your proof. You can't, because this is an extension of the CT scan/MRI lie.

You believe that she remains alive despite not having a brain.

The lies just keep piling up! Why are you accusing Terri of not having a brain? Why do you hate her so much? Why are you accusing Raquel of believing that Terri has no brain, but somehow manages to live without one. You are one sick _______.

I gave you the facts as I know them.

Wrong. You are spreading lies in an attempt to contribute to an innocent woman being murdered. This is not a game.

This lie has been passed from one troll to next.

It's an old medical myth and was prominent in the killing of Tony Bland, later discovered and proven to be what it is, a myth.

Also this guy is trying to sell himself as knowledgeable but misses the mark on basic immunology.

Schiavo's EEGS are flat. Not surprising because she no longer has a brain. CAT scans reveal that where her brain used to be is now replaced by cerebro-spinal fluid.

These lies have been passed down, from troll to troll. You will never see any documents that support these claims, because they only exist in the imaginations of trolls.

I also worry I worry that nature does not take its course anymore...

That was prominent wordplay used to sell euthanasia of the disabled and then the useless eaters in preWW2 Germany. "Let nature take its course"

I hope you never had to have a C-section like I did. If nature had taken its course both my son and I would be dead today.

I also hope you realize that any rehabilitation, antibiotics, or other medical care are all stopping nature from taking its course. That means insulin should be removed from the market and all diabetics allowed to die of ketoacidosis.

I guess that would solve the social security problem.

You're still lying, and refusing to back up anything you say. Please pass my info along to Bob, so he'll know you're lying too.

Autopsies have led us to believe that the cerebral cortex does not play the huge part in consciousness as the medical experts had hypothesized, after all.

So you're kind of outdated here.

The authors of the article describing Karen Quinlan's pathological findings draw attention to the limitations of our understanding of the neuroanatomical basis for human consciousness. At one time consciousness was though to reside in the cortex, then came our understanding of the limbic system and the role of the brain stem reticular formation in cerebral arousal. The findings in Karen Quinlan's brain suggested that the thalamus played a more crucial role in consciousness and awareness than was previously thought.

And here I thought everyone had read Karen Quinlan's autopsy.
