Georgia federal judge: Textbook stickers stating evolution is a theory not fact is unconstitutional.
Center For Reclaiming America ^

Posted on 02/17/2005 5:30:03 PM PST by Happy2BMe

News Alert:
On January 13, a federal judge in Georgia ruled that stickers placed in textbooks of an Atlanta area school district saying “Evolution is a theory, not a fact” are unconstitutional! ( View sticker.) According to this judge, such criticisms of evolution are an endorsement of religion. The judge’s action is the latest example of the nationwide effort to ban any critical analysis of the theory of evolution and insist that evolution be taught as the only option!

The Action:
The Center for Reclaiming America has launched a national petition to rally 100,000 citizens immediately to oppose this federal court edict and insist that evolution be taught as a theory, not fact, in our schools. The “Our Kids Deserve The Truth” petition has three goals:

  1. INSIST that evolution be taught as a theory, not a fact.
  2. DEFEND school administrators, teachers, parents and students that stand up for truthful teaching about evolution.
  3. SUPPORT legislative and school board efforts to ensure that our kids are taught the truth about evolution and promote

    Objective Origins in school curriculum.

We are also launching a national awareness campaign targeting millions with the “Our Kids Deserve the Truth” message. Also, through this grassroots effort, we want to empower citizens with the resources they need to effectively challenge school boards—leading them to adopt the Objective Origins curriculum.

You are wrong.

A hypothesis is a "guess" that if verified becomes a "fact of science".

A theory is a general system of verified hypotheses that explain an observed fact. Evolution is an observed fact and the theory of evolution explains it. A theory is not a guess. It is falsifiable. If you could show a legitimate human skeleton in the same strata as a dino fossil, the ToE would be discarded.

Science doesn't really deal in "proof". Proof is more of a legal or mathematical term.

Here's a gun that really does shoot around corners, though it doesn't really have a curved barrel. More like a pistol on a swivel stock with a little tv camera. I think it was developed by an American company for the Israeli army.

"I agree with you Happy that God "

Completely and totaling agree, science is not the enemy of religion. The truth shall set you free. Science is a search for the truth, and attempt to understand the natural world. I am a Christan and I have no fear of the truth or science.

If thinking anti-science thoughts is so important, why not stickers requiring the teaching of hinduism or Islam.

Anti science thoughts? I guess you did not read that the stickers says. If so perhaps you can explain how critical thinking and an open mind are contrary to science

You (sneeringly)' "Really Why don't you use the Law of Gravity, as you know it, to explain how gravity works."

Me (with a bow to Sir Issac Newton) "Every object in the universe attracts every other object with a force directed on the line of the centers of the two objects that is proportional to the product of their masses and the square of the distance between the two objects"

The proof demands evidence - and a verdict.

There is NO EVIDENCE man was once another species.

The "Laws" of science are simply formulations...think recipe.

Mom's chocolate cake = 1/2 cup butter, 3 eggs, 4 squares chocolate etc. baked
1 hour at 400 degrees.

Force = mass times acceleration

For the chocolate cake if you have only 1/4 cup of butter the "Mom's Chocolate Cake Law" tells you how much of the other ingredients to use.

I know enough about the Bible and science to know that your admonition that a man can not be a Christian and be graced by God unless he embraces the science you embrace to know that you are FOS.

How's that?

Now we are getting into an area I know a little about. I remembering doing lots of proofs in axiomatic geometry.

Ok I got ya, they are like axioms in geometry. Like the shortest distance in a plane between two points is a straight line.

"The proof demands evidence - and a verdict.
There is NO EVIDENCE man was once another species."

By scientific definition you are right. Man was never another species if you mean Homo sapiens. Sapiens is the species and humans are defined as that species, so you are technically correct. Man was never a different Genus, either.

But there are several species that have been discovered in the Genus Homo that are in the branch of human forebears. I am sorry if that fact dismays you, but that is the truth.

But if you hope to argue science, you must understand science. Science is not a court of law and the "verdicts" are drawn by empirical evidence, scientific analysis, controlled experiments and peer review.

Yep.

Except that I hated geometry and would never have spontanously thought to suggest that. :-)

"So sayeth the supporters of the new American paradigm, scientists for oligarchy.

Oligarchy is rule by the few. It is not the case that a few scientists are hoarding over the realm of science forcing the rest to accept evolution. It is the opposite. Those who believe in ID are not liberating captive scientists who are hoping to be rescued. Once ID continues to pick up momentum, the scientific community will be roused and ID will go down to a humiliating defeat.

I love math, it is so simple. If I had just a few more IQ point I would have made a career of mathmatics. But to really make it in the field you have to be very very bright. I was just very bright.
