So Smithers is coming out? Or is it Marge's Sisters Patty and Selma? The world waits!

Smithers has been gay for years. They also did an episode where Homer thought Bart was turning gay, he took Bart to a steel mill, and of course it turned out that it was a gay steel mill.
I love the simpsons.
Can't wait to see who Smithers marries.

Who but an adolescent would watch the Simpsons?
To: FeeinTennessee
Who comes out of the closet? If I had to guess, I'd say probably Sideshow Bob or his brother. Or that homely teacher with the straight hair and glasses.

It's one of the most literate and witty TV shows in the history of the medium that's been praised by National Review among others.

I just think Smithers is too obvious. They'll have to pick someone else.

Obviously you have never watched the Simpsons. First its a cartoon, not reality TV, not based on anything but the writers larks. Secondly the show for years has poked fun at America and our values (both real and imaginary). How this cartoon can carry an agenda is beyond me. And anyone who would take it seriously is in need of some professional help. If your so offended don't watch it or let your children watch it. I myself will tune in a probably laugh my @ss off. D'OH!

Who but an adolescent would watch the Simpsons? Conservative adults relaxing after a day of work.
To: Borges
It's just so much more offensive network trash, and this pretty much proves it. BTW, nastiness does not equate with conservative.

I'm with you on that. I suspect we'll see more subtle mockery of the whole thing than anything. We'll see Mayor Quimby (Ted Kennedy's cousin) publicly pronounce his "respect" for them while he privately figures out how he can fill city coffers with "gay money", Burns figuring an "EGGSSELLENT" way to raise power rates to queer hotels, etc. And, of course, Homer will be an idiot.
Folks ought not get their panties in a wad over this.

You need Freepers to write a same-sex episode for The Simpsons?
Are you on the wrong forum?

You obviously haven't watched it that much. What equals conservative is openly religous characters and more church going then has been on TV since the 50s. They poke fun at lots of leftists sacred cows. It's also extraoridnarily sophisticated and humane. What other show can work in refereces to Joyce and the like.

Don't watch it then.
The Simpsons always use a touch of the absurd in their antics.
Your tv has an on-off power switch doesn't it?
