This is not the way a great career like Yzerman's should end.

One career that should end is Bettman's.
Another would be Goodenow's.
Hanging's too good for them.

I would add Scott Stevens to that list, too -- especially in light of the uncertainty surrounding his concussion-related problems that cut short his 2003-04 season.
If nothing else, I hope the NHL (or its successor) seriously considers cutting at least 10-12 games off the regular-season schedule. These seasons are too long as it is, and it's got to wear these players down prematurely.

It's a pathetic game anyway, we ought to give it back to Canada and say "keep it!"

Be assured that Yzerman was in lockstep with the player's union and was just as culpable for his own demise as anybody. I could be wrong, but doubt it.

I still say they should have just let the fans REPLACE the players.

Headline should be changed to "End of NHL Season May Signal End of The NHL Itself"

Wait... they haven't been playing hockey this season? Who knew? I guess the 75 or so hockey fans in the US are pretty upset, huh? And even more, the 3 fans who actually watch the game instead of waiting for a fight are probably REALLY hacked off.
I blame the union, because when it comes down to it, I'll always blame a union. The owners are culpable in that they agreed to pay the exorbitant salaries in the first place, but the union chose to force the lockout rather than worry about the survival of their jobs. Typical union... kill the body to save a fingernail. Good riddance, and I hope the sport never, ever returns. Maybe that will serve as a wakeup call to the players in the other, "real" major sports.

The players and the owners are basically fighting over who gets the fan's money. Now, neither will get any and the fans will look elsewhere for their entertainment.
Stevie Y and his "aging superstar" buddies deserve what they get. They selfishly screwed future NHLers out of an opportunity by demanding salaries that the sport could not and will never be able to support.
I wouldn't shed a tear for any of the players. The majority of them came from humble beginnings. Now they have an opportunity to return to where they came from.
Hey! I got an idea..... They could grow up, get an education and a job!
Good riddance.
