In other words, fellow citizens, even the Left's favorite dashboard Jesus knew what was coming down the pike. Of course, back in his day, there weren't as many special interest constituencies to BUY OFF with OPM (Other People's Money).

Couldn't you have edited out the cigarette?
What if there are children around?
(sarcasm off)
Why haven't we heard Fat Ted quoting this comment by FDR? Thanks for the post.

Yeah --- what was the "start" date of FDR plan? and What was the Life Expectancy at the time?

Oh come now! We've known that the Social Security fund have been raided by the socialist democRATS for about the 50 years that the RATS have been in power. They have used it for social engineering, they have used it to buy votes, they have used it to fund all of their party comps and power control. There is no lock box, never was, never will be, there is nothing left for us. They have spent it long ago to buy votes and enslave people. Now they are caught. They were caught when Clinton declared a Social Security a "Crisis" and raised taxes. That was the excuse, it's on the record. Now we have a man (the President) that is willing to solve the problem by giving back to the People their own money to invest as they please and keep the investment and the dividends....tax free. The left does not EVER want you to keep your own hard earned money. They want to pilfer it from you and use it for their own uses. They have robbed us for 50 years. It's time for it to stop.

And, after FDR died, how many "uncovered" workers were added to the program, with no waiting period before being eligible to collect benefits they had not been contributing toward?

Full disclosure: I am an FDR buff.
In case anybody is actually interested in historical accuracy, this is what FDR said in actual context:
"In the important field of security for our old people, it seems necessary to adopt three principles: First, non-contributory old-age pensions for those who are now too old to build up their own insurance. It is, of course, clear that for perhaps thirty years to come funds will have to be provided by the States and the Federal Government to meet these pensions. Second, compulsory contributory annuities which in time will establish a self-supporting system for those now young and for future generations. Third, voluntary contributory annuities by which individual initiative can increase the annual amounts received in old age. It is proposed that the Federal Government assume one-half of the cost of the old-age pension plan, which ought ultimately to be supplanted by self-supporting annuity plans."
While pleasing, no doubt, to current arguments, the cartoon misleads what FDR proposed. He was proposing three things: a temporary old-age pension, for seniors who wouldnt have time to pay into the Social Security system; a compulsory-contribution annuity--meaning, Social Security as we know it today--which would become a self-supporting system, and, third, voluntary individual accounts. Ultimately, the old-age pensions would be supplanted by the self-supporting annuity system (meaning, Social Security.)
In today's political arena, FDR was proposing a eventual add on to the current social security--workers would voluntarily add onto their mandatory contributions--and this would become self-supporting over time, such as in an annuity.

Granted but do you think he envisioned the debacle it has become? The problem with so many high minded long lasting programs is that the planners cannot envision the future as it will become.
For instance, people live longer, technology and medicine advance, unions no longer represent the majority of the workforce, therefore plans that go further than a decade scope without review and revision are doomed to fall under the heavy weight of obsolescence.

Attention FReepers...send the cartoon along to Keith Olbermann at
countdown@msnbc.com.
He needs his eMailBox stuffed with something very appropriate for his current state of denial (about what FDR really said).

GW ought to use this in his stumping on the road and so should every other Republican to jam it down the throats of the RATs.

The most important point I think is that even that repulsive Stalin-loving FDR knew the Social Security system, as it exists today, was insufficient.
