My, if you choose to believe an overwhelming Christian country of 60 million inhabitants with 3 millions Muslims is a Muslim country, you ARE boycotting reality, if not truth, Mr.
And really, don't mention it, it was a pleasure.
Hey Bruce....
YOU eat their cheese
YOU drink their wines
Me? I'll stick with our American cheese and wine while YOU WHINE.
Oh and Bruce:
PS: They are FREEDOM fries thank you!!
Along with banning the French, I've banned CNN.
You did deftly dodge the point that the Nation of France has more Muslims than any other country in Europe.
Sorry, I guess that is just that reality stuff again.
By they way, as long as I am providing you with such pleasure, you can refrain from addressing me as Mister. My title is Doctor and I assure you I earned it.
Boycott France!
Excuse me, but exactly how does the fact that France has the largest number of Muslims in Europe make France a Muslim country, when we're talking about 3 million people in a country of 60 million inhabitants ?
Using your own logic, I should say the US is a Spanish-speaking country, since it has a large number of Hispanics.
Or maybe I should call the US a Muslim country, since there are 1 million Muslims there ?
Since you, my good Doctor, profess to love reality, please explain how YOU can so easily discard the reality of the 57 million French citizens that AREN'T Muslims and compose more than 90% of the population ?
"Excuse me, but exactly how does the fact that France has the largest number of Muslims in Europe make France a Muslim country, when we're talking about 3 million people in a country of 60 million inhabitants?"
You will be happy to know that a more current estimation of the population of France is 61.1 million, assuming that you are using the 60 million figure from the 2000 report released by the French government. I am assuming that would make you happy. I would and do refer to France as a Muslim nation because refer 20-30 per cent of the population under 25 is now Muslim. That percentage is the fastest growing portion of the French population.
"Using your own logic, I should say the US is a Spanish-speaking country, since it has a large number of Hispanics."
Wow, you dodged that in remarkable fashion. The fact is that France has more Muslims than any other nation in Europe. While the US does have a large and growing number of Hispanic folks, the US does not have the largest Hispanic population in North America. So, your comparison doesn't make a lot of sense.
"Or maybe I should call the US a Muslim country, since there are 1 million Muslims there?"
Again, are you saying that the US has the most Muslims in North America? Are you saying that the State religion of the US is in fact Islam? Are you saying that the culture of the US is Islamic? Pick one... pick more than one.
"Since you, my good Doctor, profess to love reality,..."
Actually, I never did profess to love reality. You actually accused me TWICE of boycotting reality. I was not sure if that was a personal attack from you or just an example of how amazing rude people from France can be, so I just assumed it was your attempt at being clever.
"...please explain how YOU can so easily discard the reality of the 57 million French citizens that AREN'T Muslims and compose more than 90% of the population?"
So, if I follow you, the choices in France are (a) Christian or (b) Muslim. That is how you just defined it. While I fully respect your knowledge of your Nation, I respectfully suggest that there just may be a few people in France who do not fall into either camp. Thus, your figure of "90% of the population" being Christian would appear to be wildly inaccurate. I'd also ask you why is it that you have referred to France 3 times as a Christian nation? According to Barbara Amiel in The Daily Telegraph (January 26, 2004), "French society steadfastly holds to laïcité, its traditional, strictly-enforced secularism." If she is correct, then this over 100 year old tradition is the basis for the protests Muslims held in France recently. Remind me, did your overwhelming Christian population turn out to those? So, shouldn't you be more upset that I didn't call France a secular nation?
No, I was really wondering why it was not our first question.
Sigh...I guess I'll try one more time.
Exhibit A is a country of 60 million inhabitants, 5% of which are Muslims, the rest being Christian or secular, as you wish.
You take this situation and say "oh, that country is a Muslim country, since this country has more Muslims than its neighbors". The characteristics of 95% of the population aren't even relevant to your "calculations". Using your logic (may I insist on this point), since the US has, for example, more Mormons than its neighbors, it is therefore a Mormon country. Your logic doesn't make a lot of sense.
Now, if you were to tell me "okay, that's how I choose to see this country", I'd have no beef with you here - everybody is entitled to his prejudices after all.
But you, Doc, present this as a rock-hard irrefutable truth ? That's taking some liberties with math and statistics, isn't it ?
You know even with our anger at the French right now, there is no way that if the they need our help we as Americans do not answer. We honor our bargains and friendships and alliances even if they do not. We would not be able to look at ourselves in the mirror if we let them fall without lifting a finger. That is what makes us different and they know it.
You actually think we sold something to Egypt without Israel in the know and approving???? Like France cares about Israel, what a joke.
And as for India who is allied with Russia at the time I believe.... World politics, have changed over night several times since the 80's have they not. There is always a reason at the time a decisions is made that causes each side to do what they have done, you just have to be willing to honestly to find it, and when politics and alliances change a few years down the road....we have faced our own weapons in Afghanistan and Iraq but the reasoning behind the giving at the time was worthy(Afghanistan out of Russia's hands and Iraq out of Iran's grasp).
I doubt we would have changed our minds about giving those weapons even if we knew what would happen today. At that time keeping Russia from expanding was well worth it.
I'm with you. Thanks for posting this.
Excellent job of collecting these bits. I think this says that we should re-invigorate the boycott effort, since its starting to have an impact.
What's wrong with Bill Gertz's book? Have you actually read it? I have. It's very well documented.
"Not gonna do it...wouldn't be prudent!"
Read Bill Gertz's latest book.
