Teacher Allegedly Gave Bomb-Making Lesson

A high school chemistry teacher was arrested after students claimed he taught his class how to make a bomb, authorities said.

David Pieski, 42, used an overhead projector in class to give instructions in making explosives to students at Freedom High School, including advising them to use an electric detonator to stay clear from the blast, an Orange County sheriff's arrest report said.

In Pieski's classroom in Orlando, authorities found a book labeled "Demo," which includes the chemical breakdown for a powerful explosive, the arrest report said.

One student said he set off an explosive device at a golf course on Jan. 6 and videotaped it, an arrest warrant said. The videotape shows an explosion, and the voice of a young man can be heard shouting, authorities said.

Pieski was charged with possessing or discharging a destructive device and culpable negligence. Pieski, who was booked into the Orange County Jail on Monday and released on $1,000 bail, declined to comment.

School Superintendent Judy Cunningham said Pieski was reassigned to a desk job after he was interviewed by authorities. He is still earning his salary.

Pieski told investigators he detonated chemicals in a coffee can by a ball field four times for his students, the sheriff's office said. He said he did this as a chemistry project to show a reaction rate, the arrest report said.

An "activist" teacher, practicing his craft.

In a related story, all intermediate chem classes across the country have been cancelled. Federal agents, armed with class rolls, are in the process of confiscating all textbooks because they contain information on how to synthesize compounds with explosive potential.

That's okay just watch any cop/spy/sitcom show on tv and you can figure it out.

Free instruction on deviate sex, disrespecting parents, immoral behavior, alcohol consumption, and violence toward women fills the 7-10pm slots.

Kids nowadays are such loosers. If they don't know how to make their own bombs by junior high, they should not be allowed to move on.

We used to blast 100' tall pine trees a couple feet in the air. Serious stuff.

Nowadays (30 years later) we'd be in jail at 10 years old.

Well, if one does a demonstration on chemical kinetics, then it is difficult to do a better demo for a zero-rate reaction than detonation at constant velocity. But this is
a) college-level course demo (not high school) and
b) it emphatically would not include applied information like bomb-making instructions. Something does not hold water there.

When I was growing up I knew these older boys down the street. Every 4th of july they would go out and "play". It was nothing to ride my bike around the nieghborhood the next day and see 4 or 5, 2 to 3 foot tall 4X4 smoldering stumps that used to be mailboxes.

Exactly, I wouldn't have had respect for any of my science teachers who HADN'T taught us how to make bombs.

Never know when making a bomb could be useful. The kids are getting a well rounded education.

If we stuck our bombs in mailboxes, the house would have no windows left. We lifted 2' diameter pines out of the ground.

Yep. Homemade fireworks vs. terrorists in training. Used to be easy to tell the difference. Ah, the good ole' days...

"An "activist" teacher, practicing his craft."

What can I say? My chemistry teacher taught us how to make thermite (circa 1965) and nobody alerted Fatherland Security or phoned the newspapers. Of course any knowledge that represents a threat to our present semi-marxist, police/nanny- state will be punished severely. The Barney Fife's in our government seem to have trouble recognizing friend from foe sometimes. Everyone not working for government is a suspect.
