Agreed, katana. My favorite 16-course meal!! When I was a college student visiting Amsterdam, I used to practically live on those sandwiches at Broodje von Koodje (spelling is way off, but if you've been there, you know what I mean.) Don't think I'd want to do that now. Oh yeah -- that other stew thing was good -- hutsput or something like that?
Hmmmm. You might have gone a long time without bringing this up.
Wow, you threw me for a minute. I've only heard of "Holland", Mi., but yep there is a "New" Holland :-)
Dude. You're from Canada.
I actually was going to say something about McGreevy or Teddy K or Boxer and how we shouldn't throw stones BUT I clicked on and saw you were from CANADA.
You know there are Dutch troops in Iraq, unlike some (cough cough) other countries.
And exactly in which war was that? The war of 1812? If so you must be referring to General Hull. But then again we have The Battle of Lake Erie where Commodore Perry said, "WE HAVE MET THE ENEMY AND THEY ARE OURS." (and they were)
What will it take before we fight back with enough force to squash these cowards?
LOL. Sorry Will, our invasion budget is all used up.
The period of Islâmic conquests and empire building marks the first phase of the expansion of Islâm as a religion. Islâm's essential egalitarianism within the community of the faithful and its official discrimination against the followers of other religions won rapid converts. Jews and Christians were assigned a special status as communities possessing scriptures and called the people of the Book (ahl al-kitâb ) and, therefore, were allowed religious autonomy. They were, however, required to pay a per capita tax called jizyah , as opposed to pagans, who were required to either accept Islâm or die. The same status of the people of the Book was later extended to Zoroastrians and Hindus, but many people of the Book joined Islâm in order to escape the disability of the jizyah. A much more massive expansion of Islâm after the 12th century was inaugurated by the Sufis (Muslim mystics), who were mainly responsible for the spread of Islâm in India, Central Asia, Turkey, and sub-Saharan Africa
"New Holland" is the farm machinery maker. You are right, Holland Michigan is the big town. My mistake ..... I don't know if there's much of a town named "New Holland"
Assault and vandalism are legal in Holland now?
That's what happens when you approve same-sex marriages.
/sarcasm
Muhammad ambushed caravans and was a sneaky assassin. These Mohammedans are only emulating his life as the Koran commands them to. If they push terrorism too far we will waste Mecca/Medina and that will be their end of their faith in "omnipotent" allah
However I will wager that it is all done peacefully. As we are all aware; Islam is the religion of peace!
Holland needs CCW. Right quick.
Our coffee houses are a little different from yours. Would you be able to adjust?
America elected bill clinton, and his wife! - what's your point?
A question is not a 'point'.
So was New York City -- originally called New Amsterdam. The area around New York City is dotted with place names derived from Dutch towns, words or family names such as Staten Island, Brooklyn, The Bronx, Orange (NJ), Orange County (NY), the Kill van Kull, Catskill Mountains, etc.
Historically, yes. Grand Rapids retained much of the culture as well, with several excellent Reformed colleges. There are other smaller enclaves too - Ontario, NW Iowa, NW Washington State, and a few in Southern California. Historically the church (for Protestants at least) has been the center of the community for the Dutch, and where there is a community there is usually a solid church or five.
