The Jeff Gannon story is still bouncing around the Internet, and now there are pictures.
The kind you shouldn't open up in the office.
The X-rated twist has made for a lot of clandestine clicking in a town where Deep Throat conjures images not of a porn star but of a man in a parking garage. But it has also deepened the debate over blogging and the tactics used to drive a conservative reporter from his job as White House correspondent for two Web sites owned by a Republican activist.
In most Beltway melodramas, the resignation ends the story. The problem for Gannon, whose real name is James Dale Guckert, is that he told The Washington Post and CNN's Wolf Blitzer last week that he never launched the Web sites whose provocative names he had registered, such as hotmilitarystud.com. But a Web designer in California said yesterday that he had designed a gay escort site for Gannon and had posted naked pictures of Gannon at the client's request.

You're right, he personally did nothing. Whoever is in charge of giving people press passes gave one to a 'reporter' using an assumed name with no credentials, who also turns out to be a gay prostitute. Something went wrong.
To clarify; the left is using Gannon to try and taint the WH/Bush. Evidently you fell for it.
I can guarantee you if under Clinton this had happened, we here at FR would not be making up connections that did not exist or hyping the story beyond what was supported by facts.
The reporter worked for a news entity and gave his legal name and was vetted accordingly as to security clearance.
End of WH angle.
A deep background check such as one would do to grant top secret security clearance is obviously not done nor should it be to allow people in to ask questions.
If you made it as far in this thread to the post you were lauding, surely you've read the numerous posts about the various organizations from across the political spectrum with less "news media" ties than Talon News that are also granted access to these briefings and are also called on. The stories stating Gannon was granted unprecedented or unique access were false.
I am serious. Any number of FReepers would be more qualified than the average WH reporter.

Catherine Crier, who has had David Brock on talking about this had the activist blogger whose site is linked on this thread on..showed the nude pics briefly, gave the impression that it is a FACT that Gannon had access to top secret docs, etc.
She is a partisan dem and is all over this..It's only Court TV..and it's a tabloid like show but she was castigating Kurtz for not taking this as a serious breach of White House security...The dems are wallowing in this.
Both are funded by the same man but are separate..

Well I checked the America Blog tonight for the latest ....They are saying Gannon was at a press conference before Talon News was up and running ...any thoughts?
I do agree with you that this is likely a 'manufactured scandal' --- but I still don't like the fact that Guckert/Gannon lied (by ommission) about his participation in the gay porn website. The LIE is what bothers me; I honestly don't care about his lifestyle. Until someone can provide evidence to the contrary, I believe the photos are 'Jeff Gannon'.
I know he's not an elected official, but the snakey Left can make it appear as dangerously important as if he were. And I am irritated at the incompetence of Scott McClellan.
