Former first lady Nancy Reagan said her late husband would want everything possible done to find a cure for Alzheimer's disease.
"Losing my husband to this cruel disease was hard enough, but I think it would be worse if we didn't do everything we can to find a cure. I know that's what Ronnie would want," Mrs. Reagan said by telephone during Saturday night's 10th annual Reagan Gala. Former President Ronald Reagan died June 4, 2004, after a 10-year battle with Alzheimer's disease.
About 300 people attended "My Fair Lady, A Tribute to Nancy Reagan," sponsored by the California Central Coast Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association at the Fess Parker DoubleTree Resort. The $200-per-person dinner and silent auction was held to raise money for Alzheimer's research.
The Reagans frequented the Santa Barbara area when they visited their Rancho del Cielo, the mountaintop ranch that was the Western White house from 1981-1989.
"I hope you know that even though I haven't been able to get to Santa Barbara in recent years, you will always hold a special place in my heart. Ronnie loved our time there and was so grateful for the special friendships we made," Mrs. Reagan said.
Son-in-law Dennis Revell, who was married to the former president's late daughter Maureen, praised Mrs. Reagan as a devoted wife and caregiver.
"Nancy Reagan was at the Gipper's side for more than half a century in his journey from motion pictures and head of the Screen Actors Guild to California governor and president of the United States," Revell said.
"She was also there as his diligent and loving caregiver as Alzheimer's disease slowly zapped him of his life over the last decade - that decade she came to refer to as 'The Long Goodbye,'" Revell concluded before introducing Mrs. Reagan on the telephone.
I'm with you.
The Great Ronald Reagan was a man of true principal.
And she knows it.
I don't believe he would either. Nancy wants attention.
NANCY- Stop being manipulated by your son.
Alzyheimers is too complicated a diseasem it can't be cured by any type of stem cell including embryonic.
Ron JR is such a, really Nancy Reagan is the kindest littlest woman.
We all know Nancy Reagan is being manipulated.
Ron JR comes to mind...
I could not agree with you more!
Ditto......
NOT EVEN THAT-
ABORTED EMBYOS CANNOT CURE ALZHEIMERS.

First misleading title Former first lady Nancy Reagan said her late husband would want everything possible done to find a cure for Alzheimer's disease.
First sentence. Much different than the title indicates. What she said is not what the title indicates at all.
Would want means that Nancy is inferring Ron's wishes.
Wanted means that was exactly Ron's wishes.
Newsmax is getting a little sloppy. And yes, before you ask, it makes a difference.
I don't think the late President would support 'anything possible.' There are many many things that could be done that would be far more horrible than the effects of the disease itself.
Ditto-Nancy, like many older women who lose their longtime husbands, is very vulnerable now. I blame Ron Jr. and have nothing but sympathy for Nancy. She lost her world when the President died.
I've posted articles about ibuprofen and turmeric being promising preventatives. They are cheap, widely available, don't require huge government programs, and most importantly don't require the harvesting of humans.
If your post is any indication, Alzheimer's is also a bit too complicated for some of us to spell correctly.
Open your narrow mind, wagglebee. It's for theeeeeeee childreeeeeeennnnnnnnn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Can't you see that, w. I know. You're too blinded by Reagan. Nevermind. :) Hehehe!
On a serious note, you're absolutely right. How she can reach that conclusion after he was afflicted with the disease is ridiculous. Like I said, Newsmax is getting sloppy. This shouldn't have run.
I agree with you. The poor woman is 83 years old. She recently lost her beloved husband. I just can't bring myself to judge her harshly for this. I also wonder if her memory is impaired at all. Maybe Ron is "reminding" her of things that his father said that he never actually said.
A Laura Ingram-ism is needed here: "Ron NOT a JR. Regan..."
Perspective, people.
