Some years ago there was a story about a cat in Russia: the cat used to catch pigeons and bring them to its owner - an elderly, about 80, man. He cooked and ate them (and fed his cat, I suppose) and survived thereby. Even stranger things have been known to happen.

The other night I was having a bad dream. My cat woke me up meowing and with her paw on my arm.

Give the felines a break.

Actually, I recall reading about a cat who alerted his owner to a fire and at least of one who dialled 911 when the owner needed medical attention, but I've heard of more dogs than cats doing such things.

Sorry, but my best friend's life was saved when his cat did the same thing.

Cats have done it. Don't you watch Animal Planet? And why the heck didn't those women get the dog out of the house? I would not have left my dogs or cats in the house.

Sorry... Cats do it also...

I (and my family) might be living proof that cats do similar things. My fifteen year old son had been working on a motorcycle and left it near a gas water heater with a dripping carburetor overnight.

My wife was abruptly woke up by our cat jumping on her chest in the early morning hours, not a normal activity, and she spotted the fire through the garage door window and of course woke me and the kids in their upstairs bedrooms.

I headed out to get the water hose that was attached and ready while she called the fire department (I know water on gasoline can be bad,but I didn't stop to read the instruction book). The fire department responded very fast, however I had most of the flames out by the time they arrived.

The net result is that the family was safe, and the house had only minor smoke damage. The garage had to be cleaned and repainted. The motorcycle had almost no damage.

If it had not been for the cat at the very least the house would have been severely damaged.

We moved to the country a couple of years later and PIF(the cat)(PIF = 'Panther In Full', another story) had the run of the place. I can assure you that she never missed a meal or a vets appointment for the rest of her life.

BTW, I am not cat biased, we currently have four cats and seven dogs. We live near Fort Hood, Texas and when there is a major deployment, quality animals appear out of no where. The strays are welcome here as long as they get along well with the other animals and don't destroy property.

You'll never see a cat do this....

At a time when my heart was really bad I had something on the stove and went in my bedroom and flopped on my bed just to take a load off my feet but was so tired I fell immediately to sleep. I woke a while later to a loud persistent pounding on my bedroom door. It was my cat Mathias or better known as Tiggy Tiger. He had never before or since pounded on a door. I got up and opened the door and smelled lots of smoke and went into the kitchen and pulled the pan off the burner. The kitchen was full of smoke. Tiggy Tiger may have saved my life. The interesting thing was that Tiggy was a very problemed cat that many people would not have kept. It took a lot of time and patience to tame him. We had found him and he must have been abused before we got him. He was like a roaring lion for a time and he bit large wholes in the rest of the cats that would end up very infected. Finally we prayed for deliverance's for him and in the name of Jesus cast a demon out of him and he stopped biting the other cats. The interesting thing is that at one time I had a vision of him with a little gold crown on his head and told my family and friends that I had had a clear vision of none other then Mathias with a gold crown on his head, of all cats. Years later after he saved me I think it is how he earned that gold crown, for saving one of God's kids.

He would have even put the fire out if the cat living with him would've helped. Puss said he was afraid of water.

Cats can be quite heroic at times. One cat fought off a burglar one time. They can be quite tough when they want to be. Don't knock cats. Cats and dogs are both great pets.
