Muslims Seek Tolerance ((TROP™ persecuted, poor fellows!)
The Record [Bergen [NJ] ^ | February 14, 2005 | Hugh R. Morley

Posted on 02/14/2005 2:40:12 PM PST by quidnunc

Speakers at an annual Islamic brunch on Sunday called for greater understanding and tolerance, saying Muslims face constant threats to the kind of everyday existence that other Americans take for granted.

Opening the event, Waheed Khalid, chairman of the Bergen County Chapter of the American Muslim Union, said that 3 1/2 years after the 9/11 attacks on the World Trade Center, Muslims are still feeling the aftershocks.

"The American Muslim community has never felt so insecure and apprehensive due to discrimination and intolerance," Khalid said. "Our government's actions following 9/11 have impacted and continue to impact tens of thousands of individuals in ways which seriously violate our Constitution. They include ethnically and religiously based interrogations, detentions, raids and closures of Muslim charities."

His remarks drew a warm reception from some 400 people — predominantly Muslims — gathered in Hasbrouck Heights for the annual Islamic community brunch. The event aims to fight discrimination and misinformation about the Islamic faith by reaching out to, and creating links with, other communities.

Among the speakers were U.S. Sen. Jon S. Corzine, D-N.J.; Rep. Bill Pascrell, D-Paterson, and Assemblywoman Loretta Weinberg, D-Teaneck. Also present were Christian and Jewish leaders.

Though the event came just one month after the slaying of four members of a Coptic Orthodox family in Jersey City, that incident was hardly mentioned. After the killings, a police source said that one of several leads being pursued was the possibility that the deaths were carried out by religious extremists.

Muslim leaders decried the suggestion and condemned the killings, while calling for solidarity across all religions. Authorities have yet to arrest anyone or publicly offer a motive for the killings.

I hate Muslims who talk about tolerance when they're in Western countries but become tyranny in their own countries, where Muslim is majority.

Until they show tolerance to the minority in their country to the degree they ask for in the West, that is, allowing people to convert, to build churches, etc., without getting trouble, they should just shut up.

I'd much rather be a Muslim in this country than a non-Muslim in most Muslim countries.

The Religion of Murder has gone too far -- did they think we would sit and accept their barbaric ways?

It's even worse. I argue with some muslims who argue WE should have tolerance for different societal views and WE should be tolerant of islamic countries and how they do things. WE have to be tolerant. They don't.

Here's my response... _________________________________________________________

An elder of the faith is sitting on the floor of a youth center at an American mosque instructing two twelve year old boys in the teachings of the Quran and Islam. One of the boys is a native American who is taking instruction in accordance with the wishes of his parents who have recently converted to Islam from Christianity. The other young boy is a recent immigrant to the United States who, along with his parents, came from Pakistan. The latter boy had attended a madrasa in Karachi since the age of six and was already relatively well versed in the Quran.

The elder begins by saying, “I will read a passage to you from the holy Quran and I want each of you to tell me what it means.” He then reads Surah 2:190-192.

Fight in God’s cause against those who fight you, but do not overstep the limits. God does not love those who overstep the limits. Kill them wherever you encounter them, and drive them out from where they drove you out, for persecution is more serious than killing. Do not fight them at the Sacred Mosque unless they fight you there. If they do fight, kill them – this is what such disbelievers deserve – but if they stop, then God is most forgiving and merciful.

The elder then turned to the young American boy and asked, “What do these words of The Prophet (pbuh) mean to you?”

The young boy looked at his copy of the text, thought for a moment, and then replied, “Well, I guess they mean you shouldn’t start a fight, but if someone starts one with you, you should fight to win. But, if the other person stops fighting you should stop too because if they aren’t fighting you anymore, you have no reason to fight them.”

The elder smiled and said, “Very good,” and turned to the young Pakistani boy and asked the same question.

Without hesitation, the young Pakistani replied, “Kill the infidels.”

The fictional (prayerfully) scenario above illustrates one of the central dilemmas Americans face as they struggle with the issues of radical Islam and their concerns over the perceived threat it poses to their country, their culture and themselves. “Which Islam do we believe?” That which we are told exists but don’t really see, or, that which we do know exists and see everyday in the news?

The beginning of my latest essay. Looking for a publisher.

OK... let me think a minute.

Why is it reasonable to have endless discussions about muslims feeling persecuted anywhere

But the same subject is not important enough to have endless discussions about Christians feeling persecuted everywhere in muslim countries?

saying Muslims face constant threats to the kind of everyday existence that other Americans take for granted

and this all came right after their condemnation of the Muslim terrorists, and - oh, yes, and the Imams in the US that are inciting slaughtering the infidels (us.)

right?
