WASHINGTON, Feb. 14 (UPI) -- Employees of U.S.-based search engine Google gave $207,650 to federal candidates for the 2004 elections -- virtually all of it to Democrats.
A USA Today analysis published Monday indicated 98 percent of the money went to Democrats, the most-lopsided giving of any of the top tech company donors.
Microsoft was the biggest tech donor, with its political action committee contributing $3.1 million last year, 60 percent to Democrats.
Overall, 53 percent of high-tech industry contributions went to Democrats, said the liberal Center for Responsive Politics, a group that tracks campaign spending and contributions.
Republicans must work hard to win support from a company whose employees seem philosophically wed to Democrats, CRP's Larry Noble said.
Google declined to discuss employee campaign contributions but the among the company's top 2004 givers was Chief Executive Officer Eric Schmidt, whose biggest single donation was $25,000 to the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee.
thanks
Good post. Also, people tend to forget that local and state political contributions by companies are usually business decisions and not ones based on a particular corporate ideology. You bet on the winning horse because there is benefit to your company. Its never a good idea to look at nation wide contributions and make conclusions because it lacks perspective on what the contributing political situation is in the home state. I tend to dislike atricles like this because they never get to the details and draw poor conclusions.
thanks
For the same reason a lot of the rich support DemonRATs; it keeps the "riff-raff" from joining them in the ranks of the successful.
This is odd. A good friend of mine works in marketing for Google (and pulls down good money at it too) and he's as staunch a Republican as you'll ever find.
Concider the source of the figures...
Thanks for posting this.
It certainly lends credibility to the speculations I've read saying Google helps drive additional revenue to Left-leaning blogs and political campaign sites, by prominently showing them as "news sources" or "sites", and so on.
I wonder how or IF this could be demonstrated.
yes it is......and maybe you misinterpreted my tone....I was not angry......and yes I went to Bezerkeley, I just find many don't know about it's academic reputation..if you do.....then great. I never ever defend Bezerkely regarding it's politics...especially the city which is really way worse then the univ itself......didnt' think you were negative per se and yes they throw around junk science sometimes mostly political and social but you may notice that much of the BS these days like Ward Churchill and such are coming from the east coast colleges and midwest as well.
Not really , he must be part of that 2% :-)
Please let me know if you find one whose employees contribute overwhelmingly to conservatives.
I won't hold my breath.
Altavista looks good and thanks for the link-- I've just bookmarked to my browser.
BTW, you're aware of the ad for UNICEF on the Altavista page?
Please do. Or at least keep your comments to yourself.
haha......like San Francisco, it actually is a fun place to visit and hang out for an afternoon, but if I actually lived there, like you, I would have punched out many of those crazy's by now......some of those hippie types are fun to look at cause they are the same ones that were there in the 60's......now in their 50s and 60s themselves, old bald or gray pony tails and I think they are wearing the same clothes...haha....makes me remember things like Jefferson Aiplane and the Grateful Dead.........LOL>...
