It will be incremental. First outlaw pornography to protect The Children. Then, having established that The Government has an Interest in internet content, outlaw hate speech or racist speech or anti-religious speech. Next, claim CFR applies to internet coordination with campaign committees and that the internet is being used to violate the "spirit" of the law. Finally, regulate political internet sites as being implicitly funded by one political entity or another.
It's called galloping gradualism.

You are right. The more laws and regulations there are, the more corruption there is. The only way to get around all the obstructions is to pay somebody off. Your solution is a very good one, though somewhat difficult to achieve, I fear.

It is never too early to PANIC. The water is near ice except for those predisposed to PANIC.

Laz - How did CFR change anything for us? I didn't notice any changes last year.

I don't really care who voted for or against since that does not change the FACT that it had NO impact on the 2004 election as I said it would not.
Who was correct those ready to PANIC or me who said it would have NO impact?
This is not to say I thought it was a good idea just more or less irrelevant. Though it did provoke plenty of PANIC.

What law do you believe was to stop such things?
To: Lazamataz
I really don't see how this could be enforced.

The U.S. Federal Supreme Court ruled a number of years that the internet it that largest on going political discussion in human history. And political discussion is a political activity.

What law do you believe was to stop such things? Sorry, I don't remember the law itself, just the result, because it effected me, a federal employee. I brought it up as an example of what the government can do to restrict first amendment rights to specific classes of people. It took a number of years to get that law appealed by many concerned citizens.

Ugh, fk them. Will our government stop trampling over our rights? IF WE (and not Pubbies) take over. BTW, that's exactly what they're afraid of, and the reason they want to run us out of business.

This is how they neuter the internet. Oh well. Fun while it lasted.

I didn't think that was within the purvue of the FEC, so I checked their web site. It isn't. Following is an extract from their web site: "The duties of the FEC, which is an independent regulatory agency, are to disclose campaign finance information, to enforce the provisions of the law such as the limits and prohibitions on contributions, and to oversee the public funding of Presidential elections."
I'm sure "independent regulation" of the exercise of First Amendment rights is in there somewhere, but I must have missed it.
