How the networks are handling the Ward Churchill story, that is the subject of this evening's "Talking Points Memo." For every day folks, the Churchill story's big. Has emotion, free speech implications, taxpayer involvement, a villain. It's very interesting on a number of levels, but not for the nightly news broadcasts.
CBS and NBC News both ran just one short report, focusing on the speech angle. Peter Jennings (search) has not reported the story at all.
So here again is the difference between the elite world and the real world. Radical Professor Ward Churchill (search) has insulted thousands of American families who lost loved ones on 9/11. And the guy is being paid nearly $100,000 of taxpayer money by the University of Colorado. And other colleges were paying him to speak as well.
This is not an important story that a guy who hates America is profiting from thathate and inflicting pain on the 9/11 families? This is not worthy of some exposition? Come on. This goes right to the heart of our liberties, right to the moral fabric of America. This is huge.
But not to the national news TV people on the broadcast side. If ever there was an explanation of why they are a losing audience and FOX News is gaining, this is it.
"Talking Points" has been considering the lack of interest. And I don't have an answer. Yes, Churchill makes the radical left look stupid. But while the network news generally tilts left, it has little use for radicals.
Howard Dean, for example, was not embraced by the network types. So I don't think they're covering up for Churchill. Perhaps the story's too controversial.

That he is on his way out is news to me. Is someone taking him out? It would be big news then.
The leftist MSM, part of the anti-American element, wants as little exposure as possible that might continue to detract from thier zero credibility. I know, nothing from nothing is nothing. The MSM, in order to maintain their five-star leftist rating, must only approach the story of this sub-human life form, from the "free speech" angle. They cannot call one of their own, what he really is -- that would be TOO pro-AMERICAN, and detract from their leftist standing and be contradictory to their day-to-day flow of supportive trash for the criminal and disgusting left.
He should be dismissed because he is a fraud, and his whole career bogus, and not because of what he said.
Otherwise he becomes a martyr for 'free speech' by the left.
And the ACLU breaks their silence!

He will be (dismissed) ... probably before the end of this month.
Gee what a surprise. The ACLU stands up for the liar. I'm in shock here.....
Absolutely, but it won't matter.
Otherwise he becomes a martyr for 'free speech' by the left.
That is how they'll paint it anyway, and that is how he'll still end up a martyr.
Truth has nothing to do with it, including his own lack thereof, in the world of radical Libs. And that includes most of the MSM.
Then again, Mark Goldblatt's take on it is different. Let him stay there to show how corrupt academia is.....
The fact that he has tenure must, I'm afraid, be taken into account. Firing him, or forcing him to resign, might be morally satisfying but would be a tactical error. It would confer martyr status on him, and it would be interpreted by his students, and by Churchill himself, as punishment for speaking the truth to power. Besides, the fault here does not lie with Churchill; he's a symptom, not a disease. The fault lies, generally, with the sick academic culture in which he has thrived, and, specifically, with the administrative weasels at the University of Colorado who have repeatedly rewarded his dubious critical achievements. What should be done with Churchill, therefore, is...nothing. His notoriety should stand as an ongoing monument to the decay of intellectual standards in higher education, and his professorship as an ongoing monument to the intellectual cowardice of the school which hired and tenured him.
Interesting thoughts............
Allegations of consistently practiced plagiarism are beginning to swirl around this Cherohonkie Wannabe as well. Once again the MSM shows its amazing talent for shackling itself to a falling star.
Truth DOES matter to most people, and the fact that it doesn't to the radical left will be obvious if he keeps his job.
I have only one thing to contribute to this
discussion and that is..where is the Mafia when you
need them? Jake
Even more intriguing is the notion of NOT firing him, but rescinding most of his salary, say to that of a senior TA, or non-PhD lecturer, but leave him the office & classroom, if he wishes to keep his "forum". He can still spew; he still has the "monument" aspect, and the people get something a lot closer to what they are paying for.
Allegations of plagiarism never seemed to hurt Martin Luther King.
I am interested in how he got this job. Is being a marxist required?
According to my understanding, he doesn't even have a PhD, and he's a department head and has tenure.
He shouldn't legitimately have either of those positions with just a Master's degree (if he even has that).
UC knows he's not an Indian, knows he isn't educated enough, knows his publications were only with radical publishing companies, and STILL gave him tenure.
The whole think reeks of leftist deceit.
There is an easy solution.
FIRE HIM
When the university is sued, counter sue and say he is a fraud. Leave the political stuff out of it and you take the ACLU out of it.
People are afraid of being labeled. That is the problem.
Not really true, although sometimes it pays to simplify. The MSM loved Howard Dean, much more than they loved John Kerry. But they turned on him for two reasons: 1) hillary instructed them to; and 2) They wanted someone who could beat Bush, and they convinced themselves that Dean couldn't do it.
Actually, Dean probably would have done better than Kerry. He would have moved to the center after the primaries, and he is inherently a better-looking candidate than that horse-faced doofus with fewer negatives in his background. But the MSM allowed themselves to be taken in. Nobody ever accused them of being very smart.
The reason suggested for letting him keep his job is that he is a shining example of the utter moral bankruptcy of the academic left, and those who support them. The average Joe has no clue about what's going on in our Universities.
But I personally think he should be fired too...... because he is a complete phony, a liar, a trouble maker, and dangerous. If I had a child who was a student at that school, I'd yank them out of there so fast.....
It's a cesspool, and Ward Churchill is their reeking poster boy.
