(CBS) The 19-year-old daughter of Alan Keyes has a Valentine for the anti-gay rights conservative pundit and frequent Republican candidate.
Maya Marcel-Keyes will be making her first public appearance as a gay activist at a Valentine Day's rally in front of the Maryland State House, says Dan Furmansky, the leader of Equality Maryland, a gay rights group.
Last summer her father, a conservative pundit and frequent Republican candidate, caused a stir during the Republican convention by labeling Vice President Dick Cheney's lesbian daughter a sinner and calling homosexuality "selfish hedonism."
"It was kind of strange that he said it like a hypothetical," she told the Washington Post. "It was really kind of unpleasant."
Marcel-Keyes told the Post her parents have thrown her out of the house, stopped speaking to her and refuse to pay for college because she is gay. She said she loves her parents.
Keyes' Web site says he is against "the homosexual rights agenda, including same-sex marriage."
Marcel-Keyes grew up in Darnestown, Md., attended a conservative Catholic school for girls in McLean, Va., spent a year in the south of India advocating tribal rights, and plans to attend Brown University this fall, according to an Equality Maryland press release.
Furmansky told CBSNews.com that Marcel-Keyes would not be speaking to the media ahead of Monday's rally, and probably not afterward, either.
Bloggers have identified her Web site as
http://www.xanga.com/home.aspx?user=Xmisled0youthX. The author of the blog says it is public and she has nothing to hide.

You're attempting to blame the father for the sins of the daughter. While the father's faith is -- at least in Alan Keyes' case -- unshakable, that doesn't mean his daughter's is. In fact, it is not unusual in God's kingdom for a parent to be tested by a faithless son (or daughter).
No, I discard entirely the notion that homosexuality is the result of abuse. Abuse or not, it is a conscious decision people make. They can just as easily make the decision NOT to be homosexual. Blaming "abuse" is just a cop-out.
And frankly, I can't see Dick Cheney or Alan Keyes abusing their daughters anyway.
Sorry, but there's no mileage to be gained from this for the anti-conservative crowd, though that won't stop them from trying.

I'm sure if Jesus were to reply to your post he'd say, "I'll tell you what's sin and what's not, on a case by case basis." You're sure of that, are you? Then maybe you ought to talk to His father, because in numerous places, He DOES tell me what's sin and what's not, and not on a case-by-case basis, but in general. That's okay. It's His world. He gets to make the rules.
And as to that "old book" with the dead authors, its laws and guidelines have defined our civilization for oh 4,000 years or so. I wouldn't be quite so quick to dismiss it. ON the other hand, the "acceptance" of homosexuality is a relatively new phenomenon, introduced at roughly the same time our culture began to go into the toilet.
In summary:
Bible = hallmark of civilization
Homosexuality = last gasp of a dying culture.
Study harder or you have no chance of passing the quiz.

Now, he's a confirmed hypocrite as well. And you've concluded that based on....?

I don't know if you're a Christian. This is not a trivial issue for us. I am. And family is not a trivial issue to me.
To: Non-Sequitur
As I'm sure it isn't trivial to Keyes.

Perhaps I am overly critical but my instincts tell me that Keyes is a bit fraudulent. Let's just say that assuming all this is true then Dr. Keyes dropped significantly in my estimation.

As I'm sure it isn't trivial to Keyes. Yeah, right.

I am. And family is not a trivial issue to me. No, but is there any reason not to conclude evangelistic homosexuality is trivial to you?

I have personally seen where families have written off offspring. Whether it is because of drug use, refusal to leave an abusive relationship (him or her), being the abuser in a relationship, or joining a cult.
Homosexuality is NOT a trivial matter. It is a public declaration of making orgasms with the same sex the life priority. Recreational sex before all else.
Homosexuals are basically blackmailing families. They are using their status as children to extort aceptance out of mothers and fathers. You have to applaud mothers and fathers with the strength not to fall for the blackmail.

You don't believe that some people are born gay?

Is there any scientific proof or just a matter of faith?

I really believe most people that are gay are BORN that way. There are many babies born with both sexes and parents have to make that choice what their kid would be...so why is so hard to understand that there is a hormonal imbalance in many people to make them gay?

As I stated earlier, the abuse may have been verbal (boy wouldn't that be a stretch for Alan) or even lack of being there at critical times. Let's face it, Alan's agenda required massive time away from the family. Lack of adequate "father figure" may have come into play.
To: Heisenberg
And what sort of neurosis is responsible for the turgid flow of dense pedantic nonsense that just oozed from your keyboard?
Keep it simple so even the children can understand. You just don't like Alan Keyes.
I can't believe I'm spending this much time on this thread. Keyes isn't my favorite politician. I guess I hate flippant and ignorant people and cheap-shot bullies such as yourself who join the rest of the fang-snapping pack and pile on.

Isn't this a question for science? Why hasn't science been able to discover this?

"The Democrats needn't pay big bucks to destroy her father, he gladly does it for free on a regular basis."LOL...what I'm tired of is theat we have to suffer through ad nausium national news stories every time some kid announces they've decided they're gay, and tired of the public being dragged into what is obviously a personal, family affair. who knows what was said in the heat of anger? Without all the political/gay hype, there might very well have been a good chance at reconciliation once a cooling off period had transpired.
Instead, the politicos are gleefully destroying a family. Naturally, they only destroy conservative families. If this were a lefty family, we'd never have heard about it because it would have been "just about sex"
