(CBS) The 19-year-old daughter of Alan Keyes has a Valentine for the anti-gay rights conservative pundit and frequent Republican candidate.
Maya Marcel-Keyes will be making her first public appearance as a gay activist at a Valentine Day's rally in front of the Maryland State House, says Dan Furmansky, the leader of Equality Maryland, a gay rights group.
Last summer her father, a conservative pundit and frequent Republican candidate, caused a stir during the Republican convention by labeling Vice President Dick Cheney's lesbian daughter a sinner and calling homosexuality "selfish hedonism."
"It was kind of strange that he said it like a hypothetical," she told the Washington Post. "It was really kind of unpleasant."
Marcel-Keyes told the Post her parents have thrown her out of the house, stopped speaking to her and refuse to pay for college because she is gay. She said she loves her parents.
Keyes' Web site says he is against "the homosexual rights agenda, including same-sex marriage."
Marcel-Keyes grew up in Darnestown, Md., attended a conservative Catholic school for girls in McLean, Va., spent a year in the south of India advocating tribal rights, and plans to attend Brown University this fall, according to an Equality Maryland press release.
Furmansky told CBSNews.com that Marcel-Keyes would not be speaking to the media ahead of Monday's rally, and probably not afterward, either.
Bloggers have identified her Web site as
http://www.xanga.com/home.aspx?user=Xmisled0youthX. The author of the blog says it is public and she has nothing to hide.

How do you KNOW for a fact that this article is telling the TRUTH? You should know how the MSM is. They lie and lie and after a while it becomes the truth. You have NO idea what really went on. Maya could also be stretching the truth a bit because she's angry that her pocketbook is suddenly empty.

She could be lying. Don't you think that's possible? I don't know the girl, and absent any evidence to the contrary then I have to assume she's telling the truth. Isn't that the Christian thing to do?
To: Non-Sequitur
Yes, I think it's a real possibility that she IS lying, or at least stretching the truth to fit her version of it.

How do you KNOW for a fact that this article is telling the TRUTH? Because I haven't SEEN any evidence to the CONTRARY.

they reveal a wealth of information about the people who despise Alan Keyes Yes, they indicate who does, and does not, have the ability to spot a sanctimonious phony "Christian".

Yes, I agree. We can't even have carols sung in schools anymore. And we wonder what's replacing God in our schools? The enemy of our souls was only too happy to step in. Schools have been a mess since the 60's when prayer and God were thrown out. What a shame.

My son is living with his girlfriend. I love them both but I hate the example he's setting for his children. Did you cut off all contact with him?
To: steve-b
And properly so, if one is to suppose that "the Lord" in question is worthy of basic respect, much less reverence. Why do you quote from Ingersoll's "Why I am an agnostic"? and say "and properly so". Keyes is a Catholic not an athiest, agnostic, budhhist, or satan worshipper. If you despise Christians just say it.
To: JCEccles
Absolutely not. I did the same thing. My kids paid for their own education. I sent spending money now and then. You were just trying to help them grow up and be independent!

The various posts on this thread shed little or no light on the true situation in the Keyes' household. Only Mr. Keyes and his family can recify this standoff as to what's going down in his household. None of us, suporters of Alan or people who believe he's flaky or worse know for sure. No one here has the inside track. So how about it. Will Mr. Keyes come forward and clean this up? My guess is no.

My Roman Catholic inlaws had eleven children. The youngest chose a homosexual lifestyle. Although I'd long ago guessed that he was heading in this direction, it was a shock to his family, especially to his parents. I love him dearly, but as scientific research is showing that societal influence is what probably what causes homosexuality, then it is clear that it is not a biological issue. As someone here pointed out: it is a choice and choices have consequences. It is up to anyone who chooses homosexuality to know what those consequences will be and to be accountable for his or her choice. But the feminists made sure that victim mentality would prevail and hence, no one feels the need to be accountable for anything anymore. It is easier to continue doing whatever floats your boat and blame someone or something else for any leaks.

Alan Keyes may have to find some other line of work, as it hard to imagine him not going into political oblivion. Even a desperate state Republican party would select him now, after his 2004 U.S. Senate race. Dan Quayle has been exiled from politics for his ineptness in public appearances. Although Keyes' offenses are ones of excessive bluntness, and not clumsiness when making "off the cuff" remarks, the results will be the same.

I do not Judge, God is the Judge, I am His humble servant awaiting passage to his Eternal Kingdom.
This is a great post becasue it includes the prediction of this very scenario.
I will add, that those who worship the Harlot, harm the Children and Innocents, will be dealt with in stealth punishment.
Gay people have to realize what God has laid forth, in the Ten Commandemnets, does not allow for interpretations, and nowhere in them, is their a law that does not reperesent, the Binding of Mother and Father to be honored, Man and Women, on its very face.
I must say, God will deal with the Gay's, as he did Sodom and Gomorah.
Pillars of Salt, at the best.

Doesn't seem so to me. You always have negative things to say about Christians.

She's a queer liberal activist. I expect she lies a lot.No bias in your post, is there?
Why of course I'm freeping biased. I'm a freeping Chrisitan conservative. I assume liberal queer activists tell lies and half truthes all the time until proven otherwise. I also assume if the source is CBS it's filled with lies and half truths. This ain't DU you know.

Everyone I know, has at least one gay family member. That is how widespread the gay community is.I guess it's all in who you know. There aren't any gays in my family. Not any of my cousins, aunts, uncles, parents, grandparents or great grandparents. None who ever even gave rise to a doubt. None in my wife's family. I can only think of two guys my age in the neighborhood I grew up in that were doubtful. I know one of them had quite a few girlfriends in highschool and married a woman.
