Republicans pounced yesterday on a report that the Codey administration might seek a partial rollback of income tax cuts to balance the upcoming budget, and a key Democratic legislator said the idea wouldn't fly.
The Press of Atlantic City reported yesterday that administration officials trying to close a potential $4 billion gap in the coming year's budget might seek to reverse some of the income tax cuts enacted under Republican Gov. Christie Whitman in the 1990s.

Ping.
NJ will elect Corzine anyway - even with this tax hike.
>>>. On the bright side, talk about a tax hike in an election year can only help the GOP candidate.
Not really. Codey will do all the 'dirty stuff', like take the Gross of the 401Ks, raise taxes, sign the new animal task force legistature to make them 'citizens', sell the turnpike...sell the parkway, sell our first born....
THAN, Corzine campaigns to right all these evils. Corzine gets in, makes more committees to 'look into these evils', never fixes them
And we dwelling under the iron curtain.
I must commend another Freeper who pointed out last week that Republicans must always refer to this as a "tax hike," not a "tax cut rollback." Those tax cuts have been in effect for damn near ten years -- so raising them isn't a "rollback" under any circumstances.
Weird, sounds a lot like where I live (Los Angeles).
>>>he's basically going to do all the dirty work (this income tax hike, plus I can assure you that a gas tax hike will also be signed into law) and then ride off into retirement.
You owe me an ice tea. (I take mine with lemon, thank you )
:)
The only chance the GOP has of defeating Corzine is to link him to the mess in Trenton (or "the conga line of corruption," if you prefer) because he has no real record. Sure, he's a socialist, but his fingerprints aren't on anything.
Ugh! Can't wait to leave this state! We pay $16,000.00 a year between Property Taxes and Auto Insurance! Something's gotta give!
Rent and take the PATH. ;) When I "grow up," it's Idaho or bust!

Nope. That won't defeat Corzine either. The federal investigations have to be stepped up.
New Jersey's system has been one of Select rather than elect for years. The feds were subpoening voter records in quite a few counties before Nov 2004. I guess not enough before elections happened.
Corzine will get in and buy enough polls and press releases to lend the appearance that NJ voted for him.
The media hype has even most of the NJ citizens brainwashed.
The polls are bought and paid for, the media in NJ is bought and paid for.
Our vote doesn't count.
most NJ people don't even really know who Corzine is. if the GOP would talk about him walking away from goldman sachs with 9 figures, while they were still pumping tech stocks to 401K and pension investors, who rode it all the way down while Corzine and his ilk walked off with the booty, our side could get the class warfare argument working in our favor for once. but they fail to even try.
I still think Whitman-Bradley was stolen. Newark, Camden, Hudson County . . . black holes where votes to actual voters isn't always a one to one ratio.
We are in NW NJ ,you know the red part of the state, there are no PATH trains, it's drive or go bankrupt.
Ah, Scott Garrett country! I was so thrilled to see him replace Marge Yuckema. I think he's in for life. They tried to take him down in his first re-election campaign, but failed even after pouring in a lot of national money. His district will turn into NJ's "red ghetto" after 2010.
Yep! We love Scott! Question- What do you mean "red Ghetto"? I'm afraid with all the new housing developments bring built here in Warren County ( a 38 home devlopment on our road alone) we soon will to turn into a Blue County. Large influx of Lib "city folks". UCK!
The NJ republicans have only themselves to blame......they helped get McSleazy elected! They can all rot in hell for all I care.
Corzine did NOT walk away from Goldman Sachs, he was helped out the door. He backstabbed his partners and they kicked him out......with all his money of course.
Assuming the Dems are in charge of the next redistrict, I think they'll jigger Scott's CD to include as many GOP voters as possible. In effect writing off his seat to help neighboring Dem. incubants and hurt neighboring Repubs. That could mean excluding some of the "new growth areas" and even some of the Bergen County towns that have some liberal leanings. The NJ House delegation will look quite different come '08 if 2 of the Dem Reps move up to the Senate (Menenendez, Andrews, Pallone, and Rothman being the order of likelihood).

If you look at a vote by county map, everthing for NJ was red accept those areas you just mentioned.
Someone try to explain how votes in those counties alone could tip the outcome for the state.
