The FairTax is the non-partisan national sales tax proposal that would replace all federal income taxes. These include personal, estate, gift, self-employment, alternative minimum, capital gains, FICA, and corporate and death taxes.

ahmmm
work a real job?
they'll be lot's a new ones
Additionally, foreign goods are forced to be sold with the entire tax burden on them that we otherwise put into our own products.
It is, in effect, a tariff that truly keeps items competitive as they should be.
which is another reason the dems will fight this all the way. They have a habit of going against what is good for the country if it means keeping the Republicans from looking good.
HEY!
hadn't thought of that one!
great observation!
they don't now - duh...
so what's the difference there?
Imagine not getting socked an extra 15.7% social security double taxes for being self-employed!
I don't like it that there would be some people paying no tax - but if necessities are exempted - and I think they should be exempted - how would you tax someone who only spends on necessities?
The argument that everyone should pay tax is a good argument because everyone should understand the cost of government. Although the nrst does allow necessities to be exempt, the problem is ameliorated when individuals hae to pull the money out of their pockets to pay the tax - even though the money was prebated they'll still say "ouch - dang them taxes!".
Further you can see that rejecting the nrst on this basis ends up being just another argument for the status quo - no way would it be politically possible to do this regressively. JMHO
If you file for the FCA, everybody's spending up to the poverty level is tax free.
You, Bill Gates, the guy working at the Stop-N-Rob.
As for me, I'd just as soon not not file for the rebate.
What is a necessity?
More to the point: What is a necessity to you? Is it the same as a necessity to me?
-- and should politicians and bureaucrats in Washington D.C decide which?
"...Imagine a phi beta kappa who graduates at the top of his class. Imagine the possibilities.. he could start a business that employs 200 people, or become a scientist who discovers a renewable energy source or a doctor who cures some dread disease...
but instead, he becomes a tax attorney.. and produces...
NOTHING.. what a sad loss of human capital!...."
HEY! I resemble that remark.......and agree wholeheartedly. I look forward to the day that I can contribute something real to the GDP.....
One of the reasons I support the nrst is because the gov't does NOT decide what is a necessity. They only decide what necessity level spending is (like today's standard deduction) - and they exempt that level of spending for everyone through a prebate.
The proposal doesn't specifiy what is taxed. It specifies the amount of NRST that is pre-bated up to a certain amount of expense. Ergo, you can buy toothpaste and food without paying NRST. By the same token, you can spend your pre-bate on whiskey and beer. It's your choice.
Damn, you can't read. Sorry.
I understand the subject and all the lies behind it.
LOL
No substance, just emotion. Too easy.
You are so full of it. The guy said prices would drop 20-30 percent. He did not say pre-tax. He clearly implied and misrepresented what was going on. It is just the same old typical bullcrap that NRST folks use on every figgin thread on this subject. It is all smoke and mirrors.
Show me where Dale Jorgenson said pre-tax.
We understand you think it is all lies but you have offered nothing but accusations to that effect. Let's see some research or support for your position. Do you have anything intelligent to add or are you just going to disrupt the debate with puffery?
My problem with what you said is that you said it was claimed that prices would drop 30-40%. I said no, they will drop 20-30%.
Then you freaked out.
