Rabinowitz also drew fire in November when the program offered a temporary teaching position to 1960s radical Susan Rosenberg.

Fascinating.

< liberal mode on > What Nancy Rabinowitz did was inappropriate. I am offended, therefore, she should resign. < liberal mode off >

I'm still waiting for any sign of a change in the politics at my university.

Last semester, I got a request from the Women's Studies department for proposals to add "Queer Studies" components to my classes. I'm still trying to figure out how financial accounting and "Queer Studies" go together.

There were two what-were-they-thinking moments there. First, why would they call it "Queer Studies," and second, why would a state university with a Republican legislature think it was a good idea anyway?

Go figure.

This is getting out of hand. Who cares what he and those like him think? He is allowed to say anything he wants... not just to teach it.

Horse manure! Let's try that headline again with a little more objectivity:

N.Y. professor loses quits post over Churchill controversy

The only "duress" that the professor is claiming is that she can't handle the political and media fallout that her own actions brought down on herself and the program.

"I would have preferred to stay on until I took my long-awaited sabbatical," Rabinowitz said.

So what's the problem? Now you have a head start.

"I would have preferred to stay on until I took my long-awaited sabbatical," Rabinowitz said in a statement released by the school"

How sad. Useless eater.

Churchill, a tenured professor, recently resigned as chairman of the ethnic studies department amid the uproar over his essay.

I'm still trying to understand how Churchill became a tenured professor, much less the head of a department without his doctorate.

Rabinowitz also drew fire in November when the program offered a temporary teaching position to 1960s radical Susan Rosenberg. Rosenberg was indicted but never tried in a 1981 armored car robbery that left a guard and two police officers dead.

Perhaps Churchill was hired under a program similar to that administered by Rabinowitz: Wanted: Lefty delusional kook for department head. Experience in terrorism desired, but will consider poseur.

Well, some Conservatives have been saying for the past
5 years that what the nation needs is a good house-
cleaning of the Liberal Professors in the Colleges.
Maybe what we have here is a start.

It makes sense to me. A College/University has a
problem when it realies on its benefactors for financial support in addition to the student tuition. If the
benefactors (alumni) fall into an indignant mood over
guest lecturers, their gifts/endowments go down. That
coupled with possible strong reaction by parents of
potential new students spells catastrophe for the
school.

IMO Churchill and his flagrant ideas are not the real
crux of the matter. He's simply a stat in the system.
But the FALLOUT should be interesting to watch.

She "lost" nothing. She retains her tenure, her professorship and thus her ability to damage American youths unlucky enough to take her class.

Nancy Rabinowitz of Hamilton College said she was resigning "under duress" as director of the Kirkland Project for the Study of Gender, Society and Culture. She will continue to teach comparative literature.

In Peter Principle speak this is a modified "Lateral Arabesque". All she's giving up is a meaningless title with no reduction in salary. Now she can pose as some sort of martyr and still remain tightly attached to the government sugar-tit.
