A campaign convenience is no more. According to The Washington Times, Teresa Heinz, the erstwhile Teresa Heinz Kerry, has stopped using the last name of her husband, Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry, last year's Democrat presidential nominee. Preceding its Women Who Make a Difference Awards dinner next month, the National Council for Research on Women is featuring "a conversation with Teresa Heinz," according to a release from the organization. The council failed to mention the final half of the Fox Chapel ketchup heiress' formerly elongated last name in several other references. "I just checked and she no longer uses her (entire) last name; only during the (presidential) campaign did she use Kerry," campaign spokeswoman Tamara Rodriguez Reichberg said.

Calling a less-than-flattering Newsweek article on Heinz "gossip," Kerry said, "I'm not going to worry about it. You know, that article is like having a colonoscopy and you move on." Except that they had to temporarily displace your head, Flipper, while they performed the colonoscopy...

I don't know. It saddens me. I can not think of two people who richly deserve each other more than Teresa and John.

The country drops Kerry. The DNC drops Kerry. Now his wife drops him.
Think he'll apply for a medal for all this suffering - a political purple heart?

It married a kerry and refuses to take the name, it should no longer use it's previous married name (Heinz) but should go back to it's family name. That's what I never got... she couldn't have been Heinz-Kerry, because she is no longer a Heinz.
At least 'Rodham Clinton' is Hillary's maiden and married names, which makes sense.

I almost feel sorry for John Kerry. A wife who refuses to take your name has to be one of the most emasculating things a woman can do to you.

"Heinz" is easier to say when you're drunk and it's not as obvious that you're slurring.

She didn't use it before the campaign. She only used it during the campaign because it was a campaign, and now she's not using it again. So if she uses "Kerry" again we'll know that he's running in '08?
