In the Blogosphere, Lightning Strikes Thrice
By Howard Kurtz Washington Post Staff Writer Sunday, February 13, 2005; Page D01
The blogosphere, with its lightning speed and rough-edged sense of justice, seems to be claiming more victims more quickly.
Three dramatic departures in recent days have highlighted the one-strike-and-you're-out nature of trial by Internet. Eason Jordan quit under pressure as CNN's chief news executive Friday night over his remarks on U.S. soldiers killing journalists in Iraq, following a relentless campaign by online critics but scant coverage in the mainstream press. In past episodes, journalists have been forced to resign, or news organizations to admit error, after Web commentators helped push a controversy into newspaper and television reports. In Jordan's case, the middle step was all but skipped.
Critics blamed the halting nature of Jordan's and CNN's defense. "Blogs are unforgiving of that lack of speedy responsiveness," says veteran magazine editor Jeff Jarvis, who blogs at buzzmachine.com. "We used to be the gatekeepers," and would grapple with criticism "in our own sweet time. You'd think we would understand the speed of news better than anybody, and we don't. We used to control that speed."

They might as well start reporting their circulation numbers in the obits, too. Between the two, it'll be the best part of the paper.
Man they are amazing how they insist on framing every issue in terms that make their man look innocent. Covering up for Saddam Hussein's atrocities, and hurling treasonous accusations at our soldiers in public forums are the reason Jordan resigned, not because of any quirk of the blogosphere.
They ONLY concentrated on the fonts of the memo
The media TOTALLY ignored the real question ..
WHO forged these Military Documents ..
What phone calls were on Max Clelland and Joe Lockhart's cell phone?
Why did Rather and CBS try to change the out come of a Presidential Election?
There were sooooooooo many questions they MSM didn't want to ask
Why??
My guess it's because they didn't want to know the answers
You are right on the money .. that is exactly what I think when I listen to FOX. Some of their reporters do that - but a lot of them don't - and it really angers me. The weekends are the worse - and they seem to pander to the left more on weekends and I end up not watching them at all, except for War Stories.
In Rush's newsletter, he did an interview with Brent Bozell. Brent said he believed there would be another conservative news network very soon. My impression was that he meant a station more conservative than FOX - and a station less inclined to leave out the "we say" part. I sure would like to be involved in getting something like that on the air - what a fun job that would be.
CBS still has Ohio listed as "too close to call" and haven't called the election for Bush.
Wasn't Jordon also the guy who admitted that he and CNN brass knew about the mass murders and tortures by Hussien, but never reported on it so that they wouldn't be thrown out of Iraq?

Gosh, I'm pretty late to the game! I just found this out by reading this column. I've been stuck on O' Malley. Good going, guys!

It was a spectacular triumph for the feminists when they brought down Senator Packwood. It was a fatal mistake for them when they failed to do the same with President Clinton.
Every time I read that, I break out in a wide grin. I think it will ultimately be ensconced in the culture as a metaphor for sore losers!
CBS still hasn't called the election for Bush!
where can I find this?
guess I can't miss FR for even a day, I missed the details on this, thanks.........
LOL
Thanks. I needed that post (#38). ;-D
Maybe they think you're me...Don't tell them....;-D
