Not so ‘Free Republic’: The Shot Heard Around the Net
The Conservative Voice ^ | Feb 11, 2005 | by William Gheen, President, Americans for Legal Immigration PAC

Posted on 02/11/2005 10:55:36 AM PST by Jim Robinson

The shot heard around the Internet has been fired on FreeRepublic.com The owner Jim Robinson and his moderators have launched a sniper style purge against members that disagree with the President’s ‘guest worker’ amnesty or support more control of illegal immigration. Free Republic is an amazing tool for those looking for a good debate and news from around the country.

The problem for the administration of the site is that their creation is allowing the participants to learn that the Bush immigration record and plans are shockingly out of line with the views of most conservatives. The management’s answer to this conflict between the majority of conservatives and the influence of the White House on their Web site has become electronic executions and censorship.

Members and readers of Free Republic would be surprised to know that many members of their community have fallen silent on the discussions about illegal immigration lately because free speech is an illusion on FR.com. They are silent because they have been banned from the Web site without warning, cause, or explanation in most cases. For weeks the moderators have been suspending and banning new members that chimed in quickly on the immigration debates.

Now this trend has broadened as the first groups of long-term users were suspended or banned this past week. Although Robinson and his staff removed many members of the Free Republic community in the first few days of the purge, those that religiously support President Bush’s immigration plan, open borders and approve of public benefits for illegal aliens remain on the forum. Those that were banned were the members that wanted more done to control illegal immigration and a strict observance to the President’s Oath of Office.

I wonder how much of this thread is simple one or two liners calling another a racist or a liar.

I just think it's a serious issue. And with all the brouhaha about homeland security and all, I can easily imagine the time when I need a piece of paper to drive across state lines.

Yet people just waltz across the border any damn time they feel like it.

So who knows? I had a long chat with a friend last weekend and he was lamenting about oil.

I told him the oil wars are just a prelude to a bigger one... the water wars.

it just didn't take very long.

Coupling your request for banishment with a personal attack on the website's owner tends to expedite the process.

Wouldn't surprise me if JR and the mods hired time on the Hubble space telescope to watch this thread.

;-)

It is probably still being watched worldwide, but I imagine 90% of the traffic is gone.

It's being watched, all right. I've seen quotes on other forums.

There is a solution, at least for the southern border part of it. But I hesitate to mention it because somebody will start screaming the race card.

Total silence?
Shucks, I thought a couple of folks would say "Well, tell me!!"

OK.

There are probably tens of thousands of Mexicans who are trying to get into the country the legal way.

Make the following announcement:

We are willing to expedite the processing of immigration requests from Mexico PROVIDED:

The applicant shows an interest and a plan to become fluent in English and
The applicant is willing to contract with the United States government to work for the US border patrol for a period of 2 years at a rate 40% of the standard rate.

Upon completion of the contract, special consideration will be given to relatives of the applicant who have gone through standard immigration applications.

I'm tired. I've been thinking all night. I'm going to sleep.

I don't know whether the Minuteman Project is racist, but I do consider it vigilantism.

Is a neighborhood watch vigilantism, then? If the group is simply going to observe and report illegals, how is that different than a Neighborhood watch observing and reporting potential criminal activity in their neighborhood?

I suspect that the reason some of them scream racism is because they cannot articulate their real position, contempt for the Anglo culture in America.

Yeah, right.

I've followed this thread off and on due to work constraints. And I've noticed that no one has responded to that question. You're not the only one who's asked it either. Why doesn't the Minuteman Project simply say we are not affiliated with nor do we want any assistance or members from these groups such as Stormfront? I think it's a fair question to ask.

I have seen a statement posted elsewhere from, I believe it was Simcox, that white sheeters and racists would not be welcome (sorry, Senator Byrd). I'll see if I can find it.

Trinity_TX, I agree with that post as well.

If some racist entity is going to reference you as though you are linked, you had best state what your positionis on that organization, right away.

To not do so is like accepting an endorsement from them and that reflects poorly on you.

All the same, some are just not consious of this obvious need for whatever reason - maybe its just poor social skills, I dont know.

As to my support of Bush, it runs about 75%.

I think he is the best president we have seen since Reagan, for sure, and the second best since '64. I respect him as a man of integrity though I disagree with him on some key issues mostly regarding labor and immigration.

Exactly. Thank you. : ) You said it much better than I!

As for Bush and labor... I'm just lost when it comes to economics. So, while my intuition goes strongly against a lot of the labor policies, I just don't feel qualified to really take a stand.

I'm just glad for what we've got. I don't think we could get anyone better in the current climate.

The Texas thing has its influence too. ; )

Anyway...

The point being made, poobah is not that the Coasties are intecepting all the illegals arriving by sea, but that I have a pretty good "ear to the ground" on the topic of beach entry. I suspect that you don't. Further, if we didn't have people chaing foot traffic all over 150,000 sq. miles of desert we could utilize those BP people elsewhere.

To: LifeofRiley

My priorites are very simple: Make my country what it was BEFORE we got buried in illegals and do so by whatever means it takes. Rewarding crime is never a good idea. Punish employers, even it it an old lady having her petunia's trimmed. Put repeat offenders out of business, jail them and make them do community service. Get a hard-to-fake social security card. Mandate that social security, banks, etc., make people aware when their identity is stolen or tampered with. When SS gets a multitude working under one SS number it is HIGHLY probable that the FIRST person to have the card is the right owner. Tell them all to "come in for a visit" at their local office and bring their proof of identity. Most the fakes will no-show. IT doesn't take a rocket scientist to figger that out. Take the profit out of being here illegally. When one is caught, he/she is sent back across the border with the clothes on their back and empty pockets within twwo weeks. Houses, vehicles, bank accounts personal belongings are all seized and donated to homeless shelters, salvation army, ANY non-profit group to help the poor who live here legally. ANYBODY can get some sort of proof of legal residency within that period IF they are here legally even if it is just your high school yearbook.
Have you mom bring your school report cards down, for example, or check with the selective service registration office. Put a reward on illegals. If a citizen turns one in and they are deported, the TAXPAYERS save money. Why shouldn't we kick some of that back to the diligent citizen? INS needs to pay daily visits to any place where "day workers" gather. Those who are not here legally need to be rounded up. Those who can show proof of legal residency should be happy to have the reduction in competition. We don't need more room to house these people. We need to out-process them faster. If our troops can live in tents in the desert these people can too. Sheriff Arpaio in La Paz Co., Az. makes it work. Put HIM in charge of confining them until they are reviewed (if they are reviewed) and packed off the all points south. This is NOT as complicated as el presidente BOOSH and the illegal apologists are making it appear. When the heat comes on, the rats move out of the heater. When the knocks on the doors start happening, when they go to work and the boss tells them they can't work there anymore because he doesn't want to go to jail, (or isn't there because he's been hooked and booked) when the welfare checks stop coming and they get a "notice of interview" telling them to bring proof of citizenship, when they can't get a license, register a car, get medical attention nor attend school without proof of legal residency they will need to look toward the south for redemption. As they move south the word will spread and the flood will dry up. Make it DAMNED unpleasant for those who are here illegally, keep the pressure on and it won't be too long until Americans are working the "day labor" jobs again, wages will come up to the market rate, companies will have to obey labor laws because US citizens won't let them do otherwise and these people are off the dole because they're out of the country. Cops stop us on the road and at checkpoints and ask for a driver's license, proof of insurance and registration. Why not add THIS to the checklist if the ossifer have any doubt. if the person has no license, the car is in another person's name and lacks insurance and the driver "no hablas" the cop, he's probably got himself an illegal. They actually shut down the drunk driver checkpoints in Oakland because they were accidently catching these people driving without licenses and registration and towing their vehicles. that is how STUPID this has all gotten.

Holding a politician's feet 'to the fire' is hardly like putting his feet 'in the fire', though some here see it that way.

Fighting the WOT along with kicking the MSM in the teeth at every turn can be very taxing. I wouldn't want the job.

However, immigration comes along and you've got to deal with it. Bush has good people around him, they make good money, and this issue should not be above their ability to respond in such a way that minimizes or ends illegal border crossings while at the same time, maximizes homeland security.

This is a 'win' for anyone who undertakes it. While it may be the lessor of priorities (keeping Al Queda dirtybombs in check vs. protecting wage levels nationwide) it is, just the same, on a burner at the national level.

Perhaps they should turn to the White House chef for answers. Sure, things are sizzling in the Mid East, but a good chef will keep an eye on all things 'cooking' at all times. And when it's done, (term ended) he'll put his finished creation on your plate. You may like it, you may not, but rest assured, he did his best and took care not to 'burn' or 'neglect' the ingredients under his supervision.

If the primary ingredient of the recipe is horse manure, I don't care how good the chef cooks it, it's still gonna tasted like S##T!!

Any which way you cut it, it all comes back to LAW ENFORCEMENT. Again I will ask a question to which no Pro-Bush Plan type has provided an answer for:

IF WE DON'T DEPORT ILLEGAL ALIENS NOW, WHAT MAKES YOU THINK WE WILL DEPORT THEM WHEN THEY ILLEGALLY STAY AFTER 6 YEARS IN A "GUEST WORKER" PROGRAM?

It all comes back to LAW ENFORCEMENT. Why don't we practice the LAW ENFORCEMENT first for a few years, then see how a "guest worker" program might work?
