The shot heard around the Internet has been fired on FreeRepublic.com The owner Jim Robinson and his moderators have launched a sniper style purge against members that disagree with the Presidents guest worker amnesty or support more control of illegal immigration. Free Republic is an amazing tool for those looking for a good debate and news from around the country.
The problem for the administration of the site is that their creation is allowing the participants to learn that the Bush immigration record and plans are shockingly out of line with the views of most conservatives. The managements answer to this conflict between the majority of conservatives and the influence of the White House on their Web site has become electronic executions and censorship.
Members and readers of Free Republic would be surprised to know that many members of their community have fallen silent on the discussions about illegal immigration lately because free speech is an illusion on FR.com. They are silent because they have been banned from the Web site without warning, cause, or explanation in most cases. For weeks the moderators have been suspending and banning new members that chimed in quickly on the immigration debates.
Now this trend has broadened as the first groups of long-term users were suspended or banned this past week. Although Robinson and his staff removed many members of the Free Republic community in the first few days of the purge, those that religiously support President Bushs immigration plan, open borders and approve of public benefits for illegal aliens remain on the forum. Those that were banned were the members that wanted more done to control illegal immigration and a strict observance to the Presidents Oath of Office.
Travis McGee Bump -
(I am still unsure whether posting open border articles will get one banned, or if even advocating that idea in a reply is also sufficient grounds to bann an individual - please advise)
Mo1, He said "basically". And he did a lot more than "make a list".
Society, of course not. Sheesh.
C'mon you guys. Be fair here.
I'm out, unless pinged.
I've noticed .. he also accuse Jim of being paid off
Dane got the boot? I haven't felt this good since Walt and Palpatine were ejected.
While dodging your rock-throwing....I will add that your tone does not inspire me...
Me either
I tend to stay away from these threads since if I don't agree with a few ... I'm called a flaming liberal ... among other names
Hello Jim:
It's good to see you talking with the people on Free Republic about this tough issue. The question I have is why did you take the ultra liberal tactic of calling everyone that had a different opionion from you racists and nazis without any substantive evidence of such claims?
One of the biggest arguements about your FROBL's is that they constantly play the race card in the absence of a good debate. Then you did the same thing in front of the Freeper community. I hope you will give an honest and thoughtful response to this question. Surely you are still capable of answering a direct question without relying on your delete key?
Oversimplified, but whatever. Asked and answered.
Oversimplified ???
Like you said .. whatever
And where, pray tell, did I do that?
Why do you make false accusations?
Agreed. Your earlier post just made me wonder how illegals would ever be granted legal status. The only way I know of so far is the apparently risky green card option, which should be done away with completely.
I don't even know what you're talking about anymore.
You live in your own "reality", boxing at shadows.
So Marine Spincter...your power and boisterous opinion underwhelms me....
...Please allow me to hunbly bow to your position....you are the gatekeeper of opinions on FR....? Well excuse me all to H___!
Well sir, in your original response post on this thread you lumped several organizations and Free Republic members with stormfront and racism. However, there is no evidence presented that most of the banned made racial comments or derrogatory statements.
I've been through the entire ALIPAC website and I can't find one hair of evidence of racism or association with white nationalist Storm Front. Clearly your response attempts to generate a relationship where there is none.
AGREE TOTALLY !
The PERSONAL ATTACKS vs DEBATE allowed recently is bizarre, insulting and just damn silly . Disruptors Inc has dug in here and one has to ask for what purpose ?
Not the FR I've seen in the past.....
I didn't accuse anyone of being racists except the skinheads at stormfront. I posted links above where stormfronters are boasting that they are organizers, volunteers and promoters of the so-called minuteman project. If you wish to rub shoulders with these people, that's your problem not mine.
LOL
I do not rub shoulders with skin heads or Stormfront and from what I can tell neither have any of the organizations Mr. Gheen listed in his article. I have also not seen any evidence that the banned Freepers rubbed shoulders with skin heads or Storm Front either. Yet the implication is clearly made in this thread and the responses of most indicate they have confidence that you have banned websites, authors, and posters, discussed in this article for racist associations. Surely you have evidence of such loose associations? Surely if customers of Free Republic will be removed there should be strong evidence I would hope.
Read the posts on the links. Again, I accused no one but the stormfronters who are obviously racists.
Reasonable people know what racism looks like. No more dark, vague, discussion-stifling implications.
