Need Intelligent Freeper Input: Guidelines For Our Prominent Freepers
Source: All of us | 02/11/2005 | By Laz

Posted on 02/11/2005 7:19:23 AM PST by Lazamataz

Recently, two Freepers who have some measure of prominance outside the forum have been damaged by liberals and/or Democrats. Jeff Gannon has resigned as a White House reporter, and the individual who goes by the name NCPAC has left his position in Maryland.

J. Gannon wasn't necessarily damaged by anything he posted here, but NCPAC was damaged by the work of a Democrat mole or a Washington Post reporter who revealed his freepmails.

It should be possible to post on this forum with anonymity and to be able to really discuss what's on your mind without worrying about Democrats trying to ruin your professional life, so, in order to help prominent Republicans who may wish to be an active member of Free Republic, I'm formulating some suggestions that I would like to have new users see.

This is what I have so far, as far as guidelines to help our prominent freepers avoid damage in the future:

If You Are A High-Profile Individual In “Real Life”….

If your daily job is such that you are a high-profile individual – as example, an official in a Republican campaign, or a state official in a Republican administration, or a rightward-leaning reporter – please read this article and take these suggestions.
  1. Please don’t reveal your identity. Please don’t drop hints as to who you are. Please don’t succumb to the temptation to show off a little and thusly compromise your anonymity.

  2. Know that there are Democrat operatives (and now, it appears, Legacy Media reporters) who pretend to be loyal conservatives. They will attempt to get you to reveal damaging information about your candidate, your administration, or your media enterprise.

  3. This is for ALL Freepers: Never reveal any personal contact information. Please don’t post (or share in Freepmail) any email accounts, private phone numbers, addresses, or places of employment – unless you really know and trust the person to whom you are revealing these things.

  4. Know that Freepmail can be, and sometimes is, exposed publicly. Please, never say anything in Freepmail that you would not want posted on the public forum. Please, people, add whatever you think might be helpful, and I will post the result as a new article.

I managed to pick up a "personal Troll" about two years ago. This troll spent about 6 months making life miserable for myself both personally and professionally. I have a very prominent position in my community with connections to law enforcement.

My Troll will be a guest of the state for at least another 2 1/2 years for violating various laws regarding stalking.

The only thing I hate about my strategery on-line is that I can never attend CPAC, Freeper cruises, Freeper inaugural ball, local events, etc.....except if/when I claim to be a "long-time lurker."

I was casually thinking about both the FReeper ball and CPAC...The dilemma you outline is very real. At FReeps and local events, I go by Drango, but at a convention????

IMHO...ever since the Rather incident the MSM has been out to take down FR. In fact, it may go back longer than that

I think it does go back further. Whenever I've seen Vanity Threads that ask stuff like "where did you get your freeper name," "what is your favorite rock band," etc. I've wondered if anyone was using those threads to create profiles of freepers or trying to identify freepers. Don't get me wrong...they are fun threads, but I've seen people give away specific info about themselves (age, location, type of employment, etc.) that could be collated in an unfortunate way. The serpent and dove scripture definitely applies!

Sound advice from the list and from others so far. I haven't read all 500+ posts but skimmed thru, so excuse me if this has been mentioned, but was wondering about the email/password database and that I trust it's safe though we should change our passwords at regular intervals. Also, we should probably clean our freepmail out on a regualr basis too. Are there any limitations on setting the password as far as length or alpha/numeric characters?

Thanks

It would be helpful to allow prominent people, or people who have revealed their identities to have 2 screen names.

OR Perhaps we should never post anything we would want to hide.

So it was a mistake to post about the 45 dismembered corpses I have in my refrigerator?

Some great ideas there! I am a "newbie" myself. I read posts at a couple of sites before singing on to Free Republic. I noticed that on some the majority of the posters were game playing kids and/or DU trolls who were not removed, even at the cost of the site's credibility. So I would maybe add something to the effect that when posting at other sites (to remain nameless) keep you ego in check and your FReeper status to yourself.

Personally, I feel that we on the right are too timid and need to start adopting some of the same tactics that are used against us. If we don't start standing up without fear and being heard we will lose what freedom of speech we have left. Right now, liberals can say absolutely anything and be praised. When a conservative speaks, arrows fly. We are so busy dodging the arrows that our message is not getting out.

It's way too easy -- especially on the social threads like "Day in the life..." -- to let our guard down and reveal too much about ourselves. Even in cases where we trust a particular poster because we've encountered them many times and have had nothing but positive interaction, we forget this:

Very true, Wolfstar. Buckhead should have had all his revealing personal posts on FR removed after his famous Sept. 8 reply to Howlin that sat off the Dan Rather/CBS debacle. The LATimes tracked him down, with the help of some of his previous FR posts - although he didn't lose his job.

The only thing I would add is that apparently we need to do the same to them over at DU.

You would ask us to be just like the DU'ers?

I always like taking the high road. VENGEANCE IS MINE, SAITH THE LORD.

I have watched some awfully large, self-inflated egos burst, without lifting a finger of my own.

They continually (DU) demonstrate the edge of insanity behavior we all know too well, and it is becoming more and more apparent.

Just remember this my friend,,,,,,

Have you ever heard or seen DU mentioned, among people you meet, or in the paper, or on TV?

DU states they have such a large membership. How many times have they been down because they were OVERLOADED? How many times have you seen the owner mention about system software and hardware upgrades?

DU is a pisspoor little website that is a magnet for whiners and losers. They can go there and talk about how FAST they will leave the US if George Bush gets re-elected, and no one ever questions why they have not left.

They, like the current composition of the Democratic Party leaders and their principles, are quickly becoming irrelevant.
