I certainly wouldn't resign because a few pouty woutys have a problem with me. Nowadays, when someone resigns, it is often because they have been given the option of resigning or being fired. I suspect that is what happened to the FReeper White House journalist under discussion.
It is easy to be brave when you have little to lose.
But when you live to the limit of your income, you are in effect trading your soul for the good life. You have become addicted to your lifestyle and you lose the option of speaking your mind.

Did I also mention that I am an MP? which as you all know does require a Secret Security Clearance. I would never post anything that would jeapardize my clearance.

Question: I know that we use a certain degree of authentication in order to post. Is that authentication necessary to view the individual state boards?
If not, shouldn't it be? While the degree of security to keep interlopers out could prove so cumbersome that it could cripple the site, I would think that we could tighten up some of our content to keep it internal (right now no one can claim any right to private enjoyment because is is readily accessible to the world).
Just a thought....

absolutely.. many of the guys I work with don't know where I live. All public documents have my PO BOX on it, I'm sure if someone really wanted to take the time to find out they could, but then my neighbors would tell me if they see anyone around my house that they don't know.....

Maybe we should, if possible, have the ability to delete any or our own posts?I take it you have never worked with Google. Click here to see why that won't help. You can always ask the Admin Moderator to delete a post for you. So when you are suitably horrified by the return from clicking that link, press on the "report abuse" link under the posts you want to delete and cite "personal privacy concern" as the reason for the delete.

Surprise, I changed my screen name.
My second user is #9407
When I first signed up, I used my real name, but I was a newbie and quickly realized was a bad move.
That user ID, I'm not telling you.

And this is not a joke and it is not wild speculation and it is not overreacting. As a known curmudgeon and controversial poster, I know full well how important it is to protect your identity. I have received death threats from posters. In fact, this morning when I signed on, I got a freepmail from a disturbed person who tiptoed around threatening me.
There are dangerous people in the world, everywhere.

Thank you, excellent advice.
We've all noticed an influx of newbies between the election and exposure of the Rather fraud. It only makes sense that Old Media, DUers, Libs, would love to destroy the legitimacy of Free Republic.
Free Republic is as much a research site as it is a free exchange of ideas. This strength challenges the grip they've had on information for so long, it is expected that they would want to destroy the reputation of anyone and everyone who posts here.
Please keep us informed.

Great guidelines; we're being read by the media even more than I thought.
And I'd already realized just how often they read us, especially after reading Hillary's Secret War for which Jim Robinson wrote the forward and in which FR was featured prominently.
