I certainly wouldn't resign because a few pouty woutys have a problem with me.

Nowadays, when someone resigns, it is often because they have been given the option of resigning or being fired. I suspect that is what happened to the FReeper White House journalist under discussion.

It is easy to be brave when you have little to lose.

But when you live to the limit of your income, you are in effect trading your soul for the good life. You have become addicted to your lifestyle and you lose the option of speaking your mind.
