if you believe the husband and/or his lawyer, they claim there is no more money left, it was all spent on her care, which actually after 10 years in care wouldn't be surprising

First off, the lawyer says that there is approximately $60,000 left in her trust fund. Now admittedly that might not go very far, however, when you realize that these trust accounts are not just sitting there not being invested all that time, you're making a poor assumption. One of the guardian ad-litems that was appointed (and subsequently removed for his report) noted that there was roughly $750,000 still in the account in 1998. That's what the account started with. How to explain? It was accruing interest by being invested wisely. Once it hit 1998 and lawyers started hitting into it, the amount in there rapidly decreased. I think that this is another reason why an independent GAL or other counsel for Terri should be appointed.

I'm pretty sure that the Attorney General already has this information and still hasn't filed for an investigation into the matter. To me what's weird is that you'd think they'd love to do one, but it's like this case has leprosy or something.

I think I heard it from the husband on some talk show. He was saying that Terry's family were making up lies about him etc.

I do not follow this case that closely so I have no idea where the truth lies.

Politics? Duty-to-die is a touchy subject. We've taken most bigotry out of the public square. Some people have a need to practice bigotry. There used to be a wide range of targets that were socially acceptable. We've narrowed it down to Christians and the disabled. There are limits to what you can do to Christians. You can deprive them of their right to practice their religion, but you can't kill them. Disabled people can still be killed out of bigotry, and that's socially acceptable. When lynching was at it's height, society frowned on murdering the disabled. There will always be a small group of people who need to oppress and murder with impunity. Right now, their target is the disabled.

Thanks for the link. That will help others become familiar with the story. What I notice in particular, is that when the person is able to be revived, the initial investigation gets sloppy because the person didn't die. So many valuable clues like body position and all sorts of things get a quick lookover instead of a thorough exam.

In Michael and Terri's case, the police asked him if they had been having any fights or marital difficulties lately, to which Michael responded no. In fact, Michael's own brother admits in newspaper reports that Michael and Terri did have a HUGE argument that very day which corroborates what Terri's coworker, Jackie Rhodes, said in court testimony.

Hi, ampr -- you might be interested in some of the info on this thread. It's been posted to FR before, but you may not have seen it.

Terri has been misrepresented in the press AND in court as being comatose and unresponsive. . . why? Why such carelessness in reporting her true condition, ie that she is indeed responsive to her environment, and therefore is not in PVS?

In fact, her medical records in '90/'91 prior to the malpractice suits (when she was receiving appropriate therapy, which has since been discontinued) note that Terri DID respond, including saying "Stop" and making faces in response to therapy.

• "When Bucky the Labrador collapsed, she[Terri] performed mouth-to-nose resuscitation on him. He died in her arms."
• She (Terri) once ran into the house crying because she had run over a rabbit. No one could console her. Her father went outside, came back, and said she was mistaken, there was no dead rabbit in the road. When she finally calmed down and left the room, her dad said, "Man, she nailed it."
• "She [Terri] went down my throat about this joke [about Karen Ann Quinlan], that it was inappropriate," [her best friend, Diane] Meyer said. She remembers Terri wondering [the summer before meeting Michael] how the doctors and lawyers possibly could know what Quinlan was feeling or what she would want. "Where there's life," Meyer recalls Schiavo saying, "there's hope."
• In an affidavit... [Michael's girlfriend for six months in 1992, Cyndi] Shook quoted Michael Schiavo as saying: "How the hell do I know what to do with her. We never talked about this when we were married. We were young and this was never talked about."
• In late 1992, a jury agrees that Terri should live about 41 additional years, and it awards Michael a Million dollar lawsuit for Terri's rehabilitation. He soon afterwards, stops all physical therapy and rehabilitation, and issues a do-not-resucitate order.
• In 1996, Michael asked Jodi Centonze to marry him and she said YES. Michael testified under oath that Jodi is his fiancee. They now have two children together. State law prohibits guardians for the disabled who have significant conflicts of interest.
• In 1998, Michael suddenly recalled that Terri 'wished to die' rather than live with an inconspicuous feeding tube under her clothing. Many disabled people live nearly normal lives with the same kind of feeding tube.
• In 1999, it became legal for the first time to kill Florida's disabled by removing their feeding tubes. Any 'verbal contract' Michael and Terri might have had before 1990 to kill each other this way, would have been murder at that time and thus illegal.
• In 2003, Michael and his lawyer nearly convinced the world that Terri is "PVS" - which by Florida's definition is:
  • The absence of voluntary action or cognitive behavior of any kind.
  • An inability to communicate or interact purposefully with the environment.
• In 2004, The Pope rules that the disabled MUST be fed, and life-sustaining feeding tubes are NOT medical 'treatment'. Terri, a devout Catholic who spent K-12 in Catholic Schools would CERTAINLY honor the Pope's ruling, and choose to live.

Michael makes up a ruse to deny ANY Schindlers from visiting Terri, who has recently developed a bedsore, lost two teeth for unexplained reasons, had two life-threatening vomiting sessions, and only rarely gets bathed. Judge Greer that same week gave the Schindler's a Catch-22: Either PROVE Michael ordered the nursing home to NOT share Terri's medical information, or else no court action or investigation will occur. The nursing home then continues to blackout information to Terri's parents, while Michael forces them to stay physically off-site.

Demanding a Grand Jury pictures were taken in January of 2004, at the 49th St. Courthouse Complex (where State Attorney Bernie McCabe's office is, within the courthouse complex). Apparently, he was watching 30 demonstrators from one of the upper floors, which have side windows on the end.

It was in the mid-rhirties but the cold day didn't stop Terri's supporters from DEMANDING A GRAND JURY in January, 2004. (actual date I can probably get with some digging - I think I did a freep report).
