Evidence of Physical Abuse Haunts Michael Schiavo

CLEARWATER, Fl., Feb.10 /Christian Wire Service/ -- On May 6, 1990, two months after the mysterious incident that left Terri Schindler Schiavo severely mentally disabled, Dr. Hamilton, an Orthopedic Surgeon, examined her. A year later Terri was demonstrating painful reactions to physical therapy treatment, so on March 5, 1991, the Mediplex therapist director ordered a bone scan.
This bone scan revealed a healed broken right femur bone and healed bone fractures in Terri Schindler Schiavo’s ribs, pelvis, spine and ankle.
Dr. W. Campbell Walker concluded that Terri has a history of trauma and presumed that the other multiple areas of abnormal activity also relate to previous trauma.
As Terri’s lone guardian, Michael Schiavo has been able to conceal the bone scan and examinations from her parents, brother, and sister for over ten years. To date, Michael Schiavo has not allowed the family to see the results of the May 6 examination, the emergency room records from the day of the incident, nor any of the accompanying x-rays.
Michael Schiavo's inability to be forthright over the bone scan brings into question his lone description of Terri's activity at the time of the incident. His choice to have his wife terminated rather than rehabilitated may not be in pursuit of her interests, but to continue to conceal the level of physical violence he displayed toward Terri.

In a stunning affidavit sworn , Carla Sauer Iyer, a registered nurse who was employed at Palm Garden of Largo Convalescent Center in Largo, Fla., from April 1995 to July 1996, while Terri Schiavo was a patient there, testified: "Throughout my time at Palm Gardens, " would say, 'When is she going to die? Has she died yet?' and " Iyer charged. "Other statements which I recall him making include, 'Can't anything be done to accelerate her death, won't she ever die?' When she wouldn't die, Michael [Schiavo] would be furious."
Conversely, Iyer said that when she would have to call Schiavo to inform him of a downturn in Terri's condition, Schiavo would be elated.
"Michael would be visibly excited, thrilled even, hoping that she would die," Iyer recalled. "He would blurt out, 'I'm going to be rich,' and would talk about all the things he would buy when Terri died, which included a new car, a new boat and going to Europe, among other things."

Thank you for the information.
First, Terri wasn't anorexic. At ~125 pounds at 5'4" she was still above her ideal weight.
Second, I have never heard of a bulimic who got similar health problems as Terri. They suffer a different range of problems, such as severe acid reflux and gradual wearing down of the esophagus. They're not skinny either. Name one bulimic who fell into a coma... anyone.
Third, even stress fractures HURT. There's no way Terri's daily life wouldn't be impaired. Especially with those rib fractures... you're constantly irritating it by breathing so you're hurting it constantly.
Finally, here's the medical definition of trauma.
"A serious bodily injury or shock, as from violence or an accident."
Does that sound like simple stress fractures to you?

Great Analysis! One wonders how one lawyer gets in excess of $500,000 of money for one case. Sounds like money was being transfered for other uses as well. Hopefully, a full criminal investigation is underway at this time. This is a case calling for Mark Fuhrman who brought Skakel to Justice!
What about a hairline fracture on your femur? Couldn't you limp through that?
Why would she admit to her family that her huysband beats her? There are many wives, unfortunatly, who hide abuse.

If Michael Schiavo is so sure that Terri wants to die why does he refuse to give her speech therapy?
Over and over Terri Schindler Schiavo's parents have asked that Terri be given speech therapy.
Terri's parents filed an emergency motion for immediate therapy in October of 2003, asking for 8 weeks of speech and swallow therapy. Michael Schiavo objected and the court sided with him.
In the light of Sarah Scantlin's recovery of her speech after 20 years, why won't Michael Schivo reconsider?
Speech Language Pathologist, Sara Green Mele, M.S. CCC-SLP, swore under oath,
"It is my judgment based on my training and clinical experience working with patients similar to Terri that she would, within a reasonable degree of clinical probability, be able to improve her ability to interact with her environment, communicate with others, and control her environment if she were given appropriate therapy and training as outlined above. These recommendations, in my opinion would greatly improve Terri's quality of life."

Even a hairline fracture of the femur (or any bone) is extremely painful. I doubt anyone would limp through it, but I guess anything is possible...but the femur (along with the pelvis) is one of the strongest bones in the human body...a pelvic fracture is something that happens with a fall from a horse, an auto accident, or a severe beating.
We're talking about a young woman here, not an old person with extremely frail or decalcified bones. A very young woman.
Incidently, I had a potassium of 1.8 once and neither was comatose or even ill. I was not bulemic or anorexic, either, it was just a reaction from a diuretic, and was easily reversed with some OJ, meat, and veggies.
