PHOENIX - Attorney General Terry Goddard has blocked the state from requiring identification from voters in the upcoming elections despite voter approval of Proposition 200.

Goddard said the rules crafted by Secretary of State Jan Brewer to comply with the initiative do not adequately deal with the problem that some people may not have the kind of ID that the regulations require. He said the problem is especially acute for Native Americans living in rural areas who cannot produce what Brewer said is necessary.

Just like California. Let the people vote it in, but then don't implement the will of the people. Almost makes voting completely pointless.

Don't know the politics of Goddard but this sounds like the foot dragging typical of someone opposed to these reforms. These people are able to come up with any number of reasons why it can't be done - Never any help in actually implementing the will of the people.

This is just a tongue-n-cheek remark but why do Indians get to vote in US elections anyway? I thought they were a sovereign people?

You don't know the politcal affiliation of this state attorney general? Just guess. You have one guess. If you fail to guess correctly you belong on another website, Democrats U. That is where this attorney general would hang out.

That's what I thought but the article didn't say so I didn't jump to the obvious conclusion.

Any excuse will do when you're in the pocket of MALDEF (they're the ones who stated Prop. 200 was "un-American").

Pretty sad and frustrating is it not? As a Californian, who live way too close to San Francisco, radical leftist politicians feel they are free from the will of the people and our system of laws. What does it take to create accountability? A revolution or anarchy??

"It is extremely unfortunate that the will of the voters will not be executed in time for the upcoming elections."

I wonder if the will of the voters will be executed at all, ever again?

I don't hear any outcry from the Native Americans themselves, but Terry who appears to be distinctly NON-Native American, speaks in their behalf, using the Navajo, Apache, Havasupai and others as a shield for his liberal agenda.

He said the problem is especially acute for Native Americans living in rural areas who cannot produce what Brewer said is necessary.

Why is it that Native Americans can't produce ID and proof of citizenship (birth certificate).

If they are not capable of self governance, maybe we should take away the reservation and force them to join the 21st century.

I've often wondered the same thing. The reservations are considered soverign nations.
