Prince Charles to Marry Camilla Parker Bowles

Thursday, February 10, 2005

LONDON — Prince Charles announced Thursday that he will marry his lover Camilla Parker Bowles after more than 30 years of an on-again, off-again romance that was blamed for destroying the prince's marriage to Princess Diana.

The Prince of Wales and Parker Bowles will marry on Friday, April 8, at Windsor Castle, said Clarence House (search), Charles' residence and office.

They will be married in a largely private civil ceremony at the palace, not in a Church of England (search) service.

The April wedding which will not have the pomp and ceremony of the fairy-tale-like 1981 wedding of Diana and Charles, which was broadcast live on television worldwide.

"There will subsequently be a service of prayer and dedication in St. George's Chapel at which the Archbishop of Canterbury will preside," said Clarence House.

The decision on the type of service reflects the fact that both are divorcés, and that Parker Bowles' former husband is still living.

It is not a popularity contest.

It is Prince Charles' birthright to be king one day.

Yep, the sadder and more pathetic the mess the better the networks like it. Of course, they're just giving the boob-tube public what they want to see.

No, I meant she was blinded by love from the beginning. Her love for Charles made her believe that she could win him over. She was blinded to the fact that her husband would always love another woman and she could never take that woman's place in his heart.

Unfortunately, no meeting of the minds.

As a friend of mine (male) says "Sooner or later you have to talk to them" LOL!

Charles was pressured into a suitable marriage to ensure the royal line.

I wish Charles and Camilla health and happiness in their marriage.

...but he can refuse..

That was my original point. That no heir apparent would refuse the throne with the memory of Edward V111 still strong.

I love the goings on of the Royals and I think Queen E is fabulous, she is what a Queen should be. I admire her enormously. Now, as a contrarian, I thought Diana was a gorgeous creature but not a person I liked,,she was exihibitionistic, immature, self centered and immensely determined to destroy that family. I don't get why women just worship that bulemic needy person and her memory. Charles, I don't like so much. And the old Queen Mother was wonderful.

Sorry, I did misinterpret that post. I agree with your thoughts.

"Sooner or later you have to talk to them"

LOL, is this from the same school of thought as:

"You can't live with 'em, and you can't shoot 'em?"

*************

I wish Charles and Camilla health and happiness in their marriage.

Although I don't hold Charles in very high regard, I wish them the best.

Diana would have been universally worshipped had she kept her silence, maintained her dignity and not given interviews, etc. She could have kept the marriage and had a separate life or simply divorced him. To air dirty laundary, well, it just seems so uncivilized to me.

"They allow marriages to horses in Britain?"

Are you putting down Camilla, or my horse? I get your point. We all know women have no worth unless they are young and pretty....Tell me, are you balding? Does your wife know we don't allow bald eagles to marry in this nation?

"You Americans have a cheek.

She may be ugly but at least she's not the size of an elephant! ;)"

She is not ugly, she is an older woman (like your mothers), and he is an older man. Is he supposed to find a young girl he doesn't love, one without character and has nothing in common with him so the public's shallowness can be appeased? I am glad he is marrying her. He has loved her forever. He should have married her long ago. This one will last.

I would like explained to me, as a woman, why so many comments are derogatory to her because of her lack of youthful beauty? Don't you people have any other reason to hate her, or is not looking like a model sufficient? There are many ugly (not just older, but actually ugly) republican women. Is it appropriate for democrats to make light of the fact that they aren't pretty? Why is it it that we women are judged on our appearance, and not the content of our intelligence and character?

To the poster, you implied American women are the size of an elephant. Many are, you have a good point, but we are trying our hardest to make Europeans fat by importing our food and unhealthy eating habits to you. Pretty soon, it will be more than 2% of you who are obese. We do like to spread the joy...
