We've had a lot of new folks join up recently. Welcome aboard, this thread is a gentle reminder of some basic posting guidelines. (And for some of you old timers as well) Please read the follow, and ask any questions. We will all try to help you out.
SEARCH
If it's a breaking news topic, check breaking news first, it's probably already posted.
To avoid duplicate posts, please search before posting. Use the published article title to prevent duplicates. The best method to search is to pick a key word or two from the title. If the article you are posting is, "Dan Rather Memo", start with 'Memo' for the key word. If it is a hot topic, you might want to use two or more keywords, in this case, try 'memo rather'. For an effective search, select 'match all words' and select 'order by post time'.
All non-sourced non-news threads are posted here. This doesnt mean your one thought is a thread by itself. Lately, we have been seeing articles posted that should be comments made on the main article. Your comment/vanity article will be pulled or moved to General/Chat. Vanities should be limited to the mission of Free Republic.
For all of you who have blogs or personal web sites or personal news or opinion or forum sites that you would like to discuss or promote on Free Republic, here's the place to do it.
Our new Bloggers & Personal forum is for:
- Posting from your blog.
- Posting from other peoples blogs.
- Posting your from your personal web site.
- Posting from other peoples personal web sites.
- Promoting your blog.
- Promoting other peoples blogs.
- Promoting your personal web site.
- Promoting your favorite web sites.
- Posting from your favorite outside forums.
- Posting from your favorite lefty forums or sites (DUh and the like).
Click on the "Bloggers & Personal" forum link on the Forums sidebar of the latest posts pages.
Hopefully, this will become a very popular forum for promoting and or discussing blogs and personal opinion/news/forum pages.

FYI: The New York Times is not on the excerpt list.
We will pull unlinked threads that might violate the excerpt rules. Don't try to get around it by not posting a link. Please follow the rules so Jim doesn't have hassles.

(Usually those who get mad are people who are too inconsiderate to do a search, people who think that they are above the guidelines, or people who are too ignorant to figure out how to do a search.)
-------- FORM TO RESPOND TO DUPLICATES, I INSERT SEARCH THAT SHOWS THAT THE ORIGINAL POST IS A DUPLICATE -----------
Please don't take offense. No ill will is intended towards you, but this was posted previously. Click on my search link a few paragraphs down to find the previous posting(s) of this.
If you did search before posting using the original title words and it didn't work right, I understand. It may happen sometimes.
The best way to search to avoid duplicate posts is as follows. Go to http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/search. You may want to bookmark for future use. Use one or more important words (each word MUST have more than 3 letters) from the title, select "quick" (unless the article is quite old and you seek a thread from more than about a month ago, select "match all words," select "order by post time," and click search.
If the title words are common words and you get too many false hits or if the search results show about 20 threads and do not include results from before the date that the article was available, it's better to use 2, 3, 4 or more words.
If you did not perform a search, please be so kind as to search before posting a new thread. Thanks!

To avoid duplicate posts, please search before posting. The best method to search is to pick a key word or two from the title. If the article you are posting is, "Funny Video, This Land", start with 'Land' for the key word. If it is a hot topic, you might want to use two or more keywords, in this case, try 'Jib'. For an effective search, select 'match any words' and select 'order by post time'.
Because it's from Microsoft.
Are the vanities running rampant?
BUMP
Um I posted a semi/newsy sorta thingy that wasn't a vanity but self penned.
I was a bit confused about what squares to check.
So I just posted it anyway, and then called an Admin Mod to delete if applicable! *L*
The trick is to click on the right place in the sidebar..chat/general or bloggers/personal before you start to post.
I just check them all...:-)
I figure..when in doubt, always post in 'chat'! *L*
Are we feeling over vanitized, kitkat? :)
:-)
Oh, Lord. The last thing we need is an Irish gal posting vanities. But that was a good idea.
You be a bit braver than I ! *L*
#3.. ;)
#3.. ;)
One of these days I'm gonna get really and truly liquoured up and post the vanity to end all vanities. Frank McCourts 'Angelas Ashes' will be like a Harlequin bodice-ripper by comparison! *LOL*
Would you ping me? ;)
Please ping me..
What do you mean "read the post?"
Hmmmm...maybe I should just write a book, and charge ye for the priviledge! *ROFLMAO*
It'd have to be racy to beat Harlequin.
